The shame is that they did not have mine. It was a '69 el camino SS. Oh well. I guess that it was not popular enough. That's OK, I loved it anyway.

 

Thats sad they didn't have your El Camino SS which was an amazing vehicle, but they had my Grand Prix which was pretty boring, haha.

 

Yep, 1963 Mercury Monterey is there. Great drive-in movie car (for those who remember drive-ins) extra large trunk.

70 maverick with plaid interior. Drove in high school, it overheated after several miles. remember listening to ac/dc's "back n black" via cassette deck....and earlier "bad boy boogie" live from "you want blood you got it" cassette. drummin my fingers on that maverick dashboard.....


ended up trading that maverick with a kid in school for a 73 vega. It overheated even quicker.

 

My el camino was THE drive in car. I just backed into the slot, undid my bed cover, folded out some lounge chairs with the cooler and the radio...it was great.

Speaking of drive-ins, have any of you in the Maryland area been to Bengies drive in? It's just north of Baltimore. I've heard great things, but have never been there. They've been around for 59 years and counting

66 cheb Nova v8 2 door. In 1971. Loved that car and owned 3 more after. Geeze the prices are high now on that body style! One of those "If I only knew what I know now things". 69 Couger Eliminator???? I don't want to talk about it!!!!

 

1971 Cutlass which I still have. When I got the car it had a 2 barrel carb and bad transmission which I soon replaced. It is a very reliable car to drive and never had any problems with it.

 

Sounds good, we would load the trunk up with other high schoolers and beer and get five or so in free. The Monterey had a huge trunk. Unfortunately, development in the Twin Cities has turned drive-ins into a thing of the past.

my first was a 66 Impala Sport Coupe, yellow black bench interior, 3 on the tree/ 283. Then me and all my buddies bought 61-1-3 or 4 Econoline vans. Hippie vans they called them in the day. We would parallel park on the back row of the drive in movies and have a party. LOL we had some great times. Usually there was a keg in one of the vans, usually about 10-15 of us together. we would open all the side doors to the movie screen..... GOOD TIMES!!!

 

Then when I was 19 I had my first muscle car, a beautiful 67 Olds 442 4 spd. Tahoe Turquoise, black vinyl top, black buckets, Man i wish I still had that car!

 

Mine is on that site and I have the actual brochure. It was/is a 1971 Monte Carlo which I still have. I bought it from my Dad in 1986 when he bought a new 86 Monte SS which he still has and only has 12K miles on it. He also still has his first car, a 1940 Chevy coupe that he bought in 1960!

 

1967 2dr Impala 396 4 spd, i was with my father at the dealer when he ordered it i was 5 yrs old,mom wasn't there and she was not happy she could not drive a manual trans.That was a fun car, i did keep the engine and transmission when i sold it.

 

Am I the only one who had an import first or the only one that'll admit it? The '81 Volvo 240 DL wagon might not be the coolest (or fastest, or best looking, or...), but how many of your cars are nearing 1.5 MILLION miles without ever needing any major services or repairs? She's the "perfect storm" of first cars: she'll never die, never be worth enough to tempt you to sell her and can't even entertain the THOUGHT of doing donuts, let alone racing or anything that will cause something like a blown engine or hitting something at even moderate speed (Not that you'd even notice it, seeing as how she's got a hide like an Abrams tank...)

 

My 1963 Mercury Monterey threw a rod a few months after I bought it (paid $37.50 for it) and was replaced with a 1973 VW Beetle. Great car in the Minnesota winters.

If it makes you feel better, my daily driver is an '02 VW Jetta. Bought it used 10 years ago and it will not die. When you live in the DC area (with it's traffic and horrible drivers) it pays not to drive something to flashy. It will get all sorts of chips and dings. The mpg is much better than the cutlass too. Although, the cutlass is sooo much more fun.

 

Thanks for sharing this! I looked at the Plymouth Reliant K that I first drove in HS. 87 horsepower baby! I think I was able to get it up to 75 mph once.

 

My first car was a '71 Cutlass Supreme, bought in 1995 for $500. As you would assume, it was rough but it ran rediculously well for a stock 350. I get a nostalgic feeling when I see Keegan's photo because after some very amateur bodywork mine got a cheap orange paintjob from Earl Scheib that it proudly wore until I sold the car in 1998 and it was totaled by the new owner within 2 weeks. That car and I shared a few great years and too many memories, which is why I now own a '71 Cutlass S. The new car never ran like my old $500 heap... it's likely lived a more abusive life.

 

My first car was a 1968 Toronado. What a cool car! Unfortunately they did not have that car.

 

Cheap paintjob is right, lol! It was done before I owned it, but it should be getting a new one within the year.

 

My first car, a '71 Cutlass S...handed down to me from my Dad, in 1984! It had been our family car since he bought it new. Lime green in color,SSI wheels and the 350 4 barrel. It was the beginning of my fondness for Oldsmobiles though the years...leading me to the '71 Cutlass SX that I proudly own now!

 

My first - 1940 Ford 2 door sedan - black. 1949 Mercury 59AB block, dual carbs, milled heads, wickedly high numerical rear end. Had a card over the sun visor for my street races. Don't know why I remember, but had 56 of them, and lost 2, only!!! '55 C***y powerpak, and a '55 F**d 2 door sedan with the police interceptor motor, driven by a GIRL! Blew my mind. Bought the '40 for $150, sold it for $165 a year later (and bought my '50 Olds 88 2 door sedan; most certainly wish I still had that one)...............alas, alack, and woe is me. Huge mistake. Price one now. Great times. Had split horn buttons, an Aoogah horn, and a Bermuda bell (checked on Bermuda bell on EBay, $150 UP!!!) in the floor board. Everyone knew when I arrived, or left!!! Got good rubber in every gear. Extremely fast to 60 MPH, then just died.
