Talking Woohoo! She passed...

Woohoo! She passed inspection today. 5th visit to Main Roads inspectors since May trying to get her registered in Western Australia. Amazing since she was registered in New South Wales when I bought her and shipped her over here. This is what I have done:
New oil pan – had to lift the engine to do this one
New rocker cover gaskets
Distributor gasket
New fly wheel cover – went chrome
Front brake lines
Rear pinion seal
Kick down cable
Both front lower control arms – easier than the bushes that needed replacing and came with ball joints as well
Rear seat belts were missing
Had to get exemption on the W.A. 3 point seat belt law because convertible, kinda hard to find a 3rd point!
Replaced right tail light assembly – thanks Brian Trick
Rebuilt ignition key barrel
New driver’s door latch
Lifted sagging door

Parts from Fusick and they shipped really fast. I ordered the fly wheel cover from Melbourne Australia (took two weeks to arrive) the same day as the oil pan and sundries from Boston Mass. that took 3 days to arrive.
Thanks to all those who helped on the forums esp. Joe P and Eric

Still can’t believe it was registered in NSW. And the rear seat belts are a national law. Somebody not doing their job right.

Pick up the plates this week

That's awsome that you got it street legal. It makes me wonder how an oil pan can be bad. Was it punctured?

I had to replace the base pan on my 455. The front of the sump pan had a few pinholes due to rust.

Holes would definitely do it!

My 71 98 had a dented oil pan. Luckily it wasn't rusted though. I still put a deep Milodon pan on it though.

I've read that 455s have a tendency to use more oil than a factory oil pan will allow. I replaced the old one with a used factory one, but I do intend to get a deeper pan in the future. It's not in the car yet, so it won't be a big job to change it.

WOW! I thought that Maine was a ridiculously strict state, and NONE of those things would have been checked here, even on a non-antique car.

I'm not usually a giant flag-waver, but, gosh, I guess I'm glad I live somewhere where an antique car doesn't need to be inspected at all.

Glad it passed!

I thought you were cheering about Diane Feinstein dying or something with that title.

I feel for you guys that have to deal with inspection, emission and required upgrades that were not even thought of when these wonderful cars were made. My tags are even good for 10 years without renewal.

If you get a deep oil pan buy the Milodon one for $30 more. I went through 2 Moroso oil pans that both leaked at the drain plug before paying the extra money to get the Milodon one. Luckily, Summit customer service is great.

Is it the WOT consumption emptying the pan that's the problem here?
