Windshield Woes
Ok this is what's going on... As some of you know, I own a 1967 Delta 88 Custom Holiday Coupe.
My windshield was cracked and I needed to replace it.
I thought that I could use the one out of my parts car (1967 Delta 88 Convertible). Gary, my bodyman pointed out a bad wiper mark on it and said it would be difficult to remove the mark without distorting the glass. DennisG. had a Delmont 88 with tinted glass. I bought all of his glass. My son and I replaced all the side windows.
We contacted a glassman (with over thirty years in the business) to replace my windshield and rear window with the tinted glass. He arrived at my location last week and installed the rear window and was in the process of installing the windshield, when things came to an abrupt halt. The windshield from DennisG.'s Delmont and my convertible parts car were both too small by about 1 inch. WTF.

My glass guy was able to order a new proper windshield from Montreal, PQ. and he installed it today at noon. It looks great!!!
My question to you is... Have you heard of this problem before? I had assumed that any windshield from a 1967 Delta 88 would be interchangeable.
Do you think Oldsmobile changed the dimensions of the windshield half-way through the model year?
BTW... My convertible parts car and DennisG.'s Delmont were assembled in Lansing, MI. My Custom Coupe was assembled in Southgate, CA.

its a convertable thing..they most of the time are different...on most older cars with several different roof and body options the coupe window will be sometimes different than the hardtop glass..its not just you!
Weird? Can't do much when they're short, just be a little unsightly glass overlap if it was too big.
I know the 4 door Cutlass and wagons/Vista are about an inch bigger than the 2 doors in '71.
I found out when the new A pillar drip molding I got was about an inch short.

I needed a new windshield for my '75 Delta 88 convertible back when I owned it in the mid-90s, and I got it through a local auto glass shop. When he was ordering it, the guy told me that the windshield for the convertible was different from the sedan and coupe 88s of the same year.
the nice thing about all of this is that just about ANY glass is still available through PPG LOF etc. They still make em according to the guy who just did the windshield in the wagon. Even the clamshell big back side windows.
