Wheels advice/opinion

I'm restoring a 64 Olds Dynamic 88 convertible. The car did not come with the original hub caps.It had wire wheels. I'm having disk brakes put on the car and will need to get new wheels. I'm not sure which way to go on the wheels. I could get steel wheels that need hub caps and try to find the original hub caps for this car. They do seem pretty hard to find in good shape. Alternatively, I could put some sporty spoked wheels on the car. I really like the Olds SSI wheels, although I know they weren't available until about 1969. Any thoughts from anyone on this?
Thanks,
64 Olds Dynamic 88

I have been debating the same thing. My 64 Olds 98 came with wheel covers from a 1970s Oldsmobile. I finally found hubcaps appropriate for 1964 in decent shape. However, I am not sure if I should use the hubcaps after repainting the wheels, or if I should purchase a set of aftermarket wheels.

I think you will find that aftermarket wheels are limited for the big cars. I believe our cars use the 5x5 bolt pattern. I don't think SS wheels came in this bolt pattern.

You'll have to use at least a 15" wheel with disc brakes, meaning the only 1964 wheelcover option you have will be the dogbowl cap. All 1964 big cars used 14" wheels except HD wheels or police, which used dogbowls on 15".

Another option is to use 71-73 Delta 88 Super Stock IV Polycast wheels. They are 15x7, 5x5 BP and design is similar to the 1964-5 cast aluminum bolt-on wheel cover. They will clear factory disc brakes and shoudl clear most aftermarket setups up to about 11", maybe 12".

Oh, I didn't see that he was going to have disc brakes put on the car. If you put disc brakes on the car then you will have to purchase wheels based on whatever bolt pattern the new discs have.

I know that my 64 98 has 15" wheels. I got a set of SS wheels from Oldsguy that didn't fit my bolt pattern. As I recall, we got the wheels off of a late 70s Delta. Too bad they didn't fit. Oh well, I think I like the hubcaps better.
