What are these ID numbers ?

I was trying to find ID numbers on the cylinder heads of a 330 in my '67 VC, with no luck.
I looked on the ends of both heads, and no numbers.
The only numbers I found are behind the Timing Cover / below the water neck and the machined area near starter location.
394417 3
394417 3

7999
7999

I Have no confirmation, but I think It's a high compression 330.
It has (I think) the original iron 4barrel manifold / Quadrajet
I believe the fuel cap is original, it states 'Premium Fuel Only'
Are there any other numbers to help ID the Engine?

Does she have the red air cleaner housing like my avatar ?

And this thread should help, Post #5s suggestions by Joe Padavano should resolve concerns whichever way you can verify. https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...omp-no-168808/

Yes it has the red/orange air cleaner. Looks like I'm buying a bore scope to verify pistons.
Good info, Thank you

Just saw the Vista in your newbie thread, beautiful car ! From the looks, condition, and upkeep, Id just about bet money thats the high compression 330. Sure the air cleaner and gas cap could of been transferred. But your car feels sincere. The borescope will seal the deal. I recently confirmed my high compression pistons, but I had no doubt. My gas cap, air cleaner housing, and performance said yes. Along with its distaste for modern gas, when tuned properly.

Below is the correct air cleaner for each high compression 330, bottom 2.

And here is another look at location of head stamping on 330. Post #5 of this thread here. https://classicoldsmobile.com/forums...engines-13691/

Got a Bore Scope, and here are the results. Anyone wish to call it? Looks like a V Notch in the piston.

They look like "soup bowls" to me. The identifying notches are out od the field of view, They should be present on #1 cylinder on the forward edge of the piston next to the cylinder wall. Take pics again.

Maybe she was rebuilt, those look odd. Or the camera is making it look odd.

Here is an actual 1967 high compression 330 piston.

And here.

Maybe I was zoomed in too close. I'll try it again tomorrow. That Bore Scope is a neat tool.
On another note, I did a compression test during the summer and got between125-130 psi in all cylinders. Would that help determine if it's a Low or High Compression Engine?

If the engine is healthy those are low compression numbers. And as Ralph said those look like soup bowls, aka deep dish pistons.

Either she was rebuilt or I was wrong, or both. But those pistons dont look right at least not from initial pics. They seem to both dish to slight dome at center. And the graduation from top edge of piston to dish looks extended. They kinda look like these minus the reliefs, unless it's an optical illusion.

Here's some more pics. Couldn't find any marks on piston top.
I'm no expert, but based on what I'm seeing and your input I Have to agree this is not a High Compression engine.
Next question, is it a 330 or a 350? Maybe a previous owner swapped in a replacement (used, junk yard, etc.) and reused the manifolds, carb, valve covers,
Either way I'm fine, it runs great. Would the numbers on the block (at beginning of thread) help determine the year or displacement of the engine?

disregard the date / time. I havent set that yet

Yes, that block casting number identifies it as a 1966-1967 330 engine.
