What should I take for the swap meet at the Nationals next month?

OK, it's official now that I have motel reservations and swap meet space reserved! So this thread is to ask what I should bring with me. I don't want to bring any whole engine as they would be heavy and hard to move around. But I will bring engine parts, sheetmetal, interior, wheels, trim, options, etc. For those of you planning to attend tell me what you'd like to see in person and pick up rather than have shipped to you. I'm also open to trades if you've got spare parts that I need for my project cars. For those of you new to the site I'm located in Southern Oregon and have been collecting 1964-77 Oldsmobile cars and parts for some time. The list of cars by my name are all project cars, none of them are done and some are a long way from being done!

So to get things started, I could bring:

Head Castings: 2,3,4,5,6,7,7a,8 and A,B,C,E,G,Ga,Ka

Crank Shafts: 330/350 forged & nodular, 400/425 forged, 400/455 nodular

Rear Ends: 1964-67 8.2, 1967-70 Type O, 1971-72 Corporate 8.5

Wheels: SSI, SSII, SSIII

Fenders: 1965, 66/67, 70, 71/72, 73

Quarter Panels: 1965, 66, 67, 72

Core Supports: 1965, 67, 68, 69, 70, 71, 72, 73, 74

Bucket Seats: 1966, 1969/72, 1976 Swivel

Door Panels: various

Power windows & door locks: various

Power seats: various

Trim: Lots

Brackets: Lots

Core alternators, starters, water pumps many applications

Core Bumpers: Many years

Then a few harder to find items that I would sell or trade if the price is right

F heads

1967 Toro UHV ignition system

1967 Toro CCC system

1967 Toro AM/FM & 8 track units

Chebby 12 bolt posi rear ends 3.55 & 4.10 ratios

Booick 1965 GS 8.2 posi 2.93 ratio

I've got my 1973 Chebby 3/4 ton pickup with canopy and a car hauler trailer to fill. Tell me what to put on it!

Looks like a good list. I'd steer clear of bringing any ssII or ssIII wheels. They're heavy, take up a lot of room, and usually only sell for 20-40 bucks.

Thank you, Dave

Yeah, I'd leave at least the SSIIs at home - take a lot of space and there are always a bunch for sale no matter where you go.

How about trim parts, never see a lot of that for sale, its either terrible or NOS and expensive.

The bucket seats are big and heavy but bet those would sell. Seat belts are a good thing to bring always someone looking for those

Thank you for the suggestions guys!

Yellowstatue, sorry not much stuff older than 1964 in the clutter. I did see that vintage of a posi pumpkin on Craigslist not long ago, I'll see if I can come up with it again.

Dave, I don't think I have an extra set of notched valve covers, but I'll check.

Rob, if I could that would give me some breathing room in the garage

Anyone else? Any requests of something you'd like to see?

John

Pcard, I might have your type o 2.78 gearset here somewhere.
I pulled the gears and traded away the housing. They may still be floating around the garage somewhere.

I started getting my stuff together. I'm inventorying, and marking all my items. I can't believe how much stuff I have. I'm going to try to sell all I can, not holding back on taking parts I thought I would never sell. I have a set of notched valve covers, if they don't sell I'll let you know. They are allready loaded in the front of the truck and I can't get to them. I'm also going to try to sell part I thought I never would, like a set of F heads, nice sport wheel with hub and horn button. My truck is full and I still have all my heads and heavy parts to load. I'm going to try to make a wood shelf to put on my trailer, and put them under the car. This has been a lot of work, I hope it pays off. See you all there.

I will be at the Nationals and could throw a few of the things listed here in the trunk of my car. Since this is not my post I will not step on any of 2blu's deals. I will be selling all of my olds parts after the restoration of my 1970 442 convt. but not at the Nationals. I have a ton of stuff, including lots of stainless trim parts. A few of the parts have first right of refusal to folks, like a NOS w-27 cover, and I have a couple 1970 ram air hoods too. I will post the parts list after the Nationals when things settle down. It will be time to clean house and recoup a few of the dollars spent on the restoration......only a fraction of the cost!

Steve, I think I've got an extra set of non-AC alternator brackets but will need to check.

2olds, this came off a 1971 350 so I'm not sure this is the correct casting for 1970, but if it is I can bring it.
P1010166.jpg
P1010167.jpg

Lee, if you have any rare items or options in demand that would fit in your trunk, I could pass on your cell phone number to anybody looking for those items. Or help you schedule a time you could meet them at my swap meet space. Would that help? I don't want it to sound like we're trying to avoid you renting a space, but if its just a few items this might work without offending anybody.

I started this thread asking what I could bring for people to see and possibly buy. But I'm OK with this turning into a thread about anybody getting a swap meet space and what we can each bring that other members here may be looking for. So if your getting a space, post what you could take. OR if your attending the event and looking for parts, post what you need and will be looking for.

Thanks John: That is a very nice offer. I never want to step on another persons deal. I will bring a few things that are in pretty good demand and are not on the list you provided above. I am not trying to cheap out on a space. I just think entertaining my family and showing the w-30 for the first time will keep me pretty busy.

Of course work has been way too busy the last few weeks and will continue until I leave for Reno. I'm putting a list together in my head and will likely fill the car hauling trailer with sheetmetal and stuff that can get rained on without damage. The the truck with canopy will have engine and interior parts I'll unload and spread out in the second space. I'm still taking requests on what to bring. I do have a lot of extra 1964-77 trim parts and will bring them as you suggested Steven.

I know 442Harv will have a space there, anybody else? I plan to get a banner made identifying myself as a Classicoldsmobile member, anybody passing by look for that and the yellow car hauling trailer with fenders and such in it. I'm looking forward to meeting more of the members here so please stop by and say hi!

Anyone else having a swap meet space please post on this thread. If you have the time feel free to list what your bringing so other members can know to look for you if they need those items. I'm bringing a lot of stuff but I don't "have to" sell anything, so don't feel bad about competing with me to sell your spare parts. I'm going to have fun, see a lot of Oldsmobile cars and parts, and meet more Oldsmobile people than I'll likely see in one spot again.

I would not bring wheels. But engine and interior parts would be great. Seats are always in demand at these shows. Rear ends would also be a headache. If you have any radios that would be good.

Steven, next time it's held in the Mid-West hopefully you'll have the time to enter your car in the show!

snowballs442, I do have several AM radio's mostly from 1965-72 Cutlass/442. I'll be sure to take at least one each of what I have. I also have several extra dash boards and instrument panels, mostly from 1970-72 cars. If I can take them down without damaging them in the trip I'll include some of those too.

I'm also looking at bumper cores. I have a lot from 1968-72, then odds and ends of the 1964-67 and 1973-77. I'm thinking those plus the brackets may be items people would like to see in person before buying, and if they can carry them home rather than shipping it would save some $$

I just posted under parts wanted but I will be at the nationals so keep an eye out for the following for me:

I had to take several parts off my 1971 convertible for the 1970. I need the channel that the top boot slides into. It mounts on the rear seat rail with six phillips screws, and I need the metal piece that is held into the top frame to keep the top from flapping in the wind. Metal strip with four phillips screws that is mounted on the first frame rail. Sit in the passenger seat and look up. You will see three or four chrome phillips screws. I need the bar that the screws hold in place to secure the top. Thanks Lee

Jeez!, My Cutlass will be there but I won't and you talk about nervous! My son will be driving it. I'll be fishing somewhere near Eagle River. Pray for me. And tell him if you see him there to leave some rubber on the tires for his old man. It's a long ride back to Peshtigo.

Lee, sorry but I don't have any convertible only parts.

mfgusa, I'll be looking for your car. Hmmmmm, fishing or Olds Nationals. I gotta say, I'd plan the fishing trip for another weekend

Rob, I hope there's one in the near future close enough or that will fit your schedule so you can make it. I plan to take a bunch of pictures! I'm hoping to find owners that will allow me to take pictures I can use for my restoration projects!!!

OK, now to parts I do have. I've got a stack of hoods against the garage wall, but they're so large and awkward I may not bring any unless someone asks ahead of time. Here's a short list with prices if picked up at the Nationals.
1965 F85, large hole cut in center of hood $25
1970 Cutlass looks like 1969 442 style with grills near back, $75
1970 flat hood $25
1971-72 flat hoods $25 (several)
1973 442 with holes for chrome hood pins added $25

Oops, sometimes I leap before I look but I mistook the Olds Nationals for the Summer Nationals which will be held in St. Paul Minnesota this weekend. Mearly across the state, not six of them. Although It would be so cool to attend the holy grail of Olds events.

Lee, the paint on my "S" is a 2009 Martin Senour custom mix metallic gold that does resemble galleon. The stripes are of the same formula, only metallic brown with "OLDS" ghosted diagonally crowded across them in reservoir grunge text. Its freaking awesome.

2blu442, I guess you'll be looking long and hard for my ride. If you hurry, you can catch it at the "other" nationals up here in the midwest. The Olds contingent is usually well represented.

OK, I'm loading the truck and trailer this weekend. I'm still focused on my original idea of things that are hard/expensive to ship or things someone might want to look at before buying. With that I'm bringing quarter panels and portions for patch panels from 1965, 66-67, 70-72 Cutlass cars. Fenders for the same years/models.

I'm also loading Cutlass/442 doors, 1964-65 post, 1966-67 hardtop, 1970-72 hardtop. If anyone requests I also have doors from a 1965 Cutlass 4 door post, 1968 & 70 4 door hardtop, 1970-72 4 door post, 1970-72 Vista Cruiser.

I've got a couple extra 1970-72 Cutlass Wagon or Vista Cruiser tail gates, any interest?

One fender and deck lid from 1973 Omega, $25 each

Deck lid from 1968 Delta 88, $25

I can bring glass if anybody wants to mess with it. I have door and side glass from 1964-72 Cutlass/442, 1970-72 Vista Cruiser, 1965 Cutlass/F85 4 door post, 1968 & 1970 Cutlass 4 door hardtop and post, 1966-67 Toronado and 1973-77 Cutlass/442. Most sideglass and back windshields priced $25-35 to cover my time. I do have the rear glass and dash switch for a 1977 442 with rear window defogg. That one would be $65 with the dash parts.

Then if I have room and time I'll put on a pile of exhaust manifolds, $12.50 each or 2 for $20. Cast iron intake manifolds various years. Tail light lenses and small parts that can go in boxes. Also various brackets for AC compressors, alternators, power steering pumps. I've got a bunch of pullys but don't know if I'll have time to put together sets to bring or not.

The bucket seats I'm bringing include a set of 1966 with the headrest and pass reclinging options and a set of 1976 swivel buckets.

I'm planning to bring a good selection of heads, cranks, misc. engine parts as described in my first post.

Anything else you want to see now's the time to ask

John

Cheers,

Thanks Tony!
This may be a good time to clear out some clutter and bring home a few dollars for the project cars. But regardless of what sells or not I'm going to enjoy hanging out with Oldsmobile people and seeing what everyone else has brought. For those of you unable to make it I'll be taking a lot of pictures and am sure others will too. We can post them and share what we thought were the highlights of the event. John

Sounds great John! I'm looking forward to seeing those pictures. We don't often have good swap meets here on the northern/east coast (well Canada Anyway) So it'd be nice to see something a bit different.

Cheers,
