Spoiler with Rallye 350....Final Answer.

In the 1970 F-85 442 Cutlass Rallye 350 Specification & Feature Manual there is a page dated 2/11/70 which reads....

"NOTE: W35, Rear Deck Lid Air Spoiler, is available as an option on the Rallye 350 but is no longer mandatory with the W-45 package."

This is straight from the Oldsmobile Marketing Department Bulletin number N/C 70-1. Subject: W45, Rallye 350 Appearance Package.

So....if you have a Rallye 350 built early in the model year it will have the spoiler. If it was built after Feb 11th then the spoiler was optional.

This should settle this discussion.

Although listed in AB those vehicles are in Sifton MB. They have been for sale for years.

That Rallye in the ad does look to be mostly complete. However, I think it is about $30,000 away from being a $20,000 car. I have found in my searching that there are a fair amount of Rallye cars for sale and the "normal" bench seat, automatic cars can be bought for in the teens up to the $20,000 "magic number". The "special" un-restored, or extremely low mile, or celebrity owned examples might be ADVERTISED for more, but are either for sale for a long time or don't change hands. I have seen aucton results for years for these cars and RARELY does one sell for crazy money. I am looking to buy one, but it seems that what I want is VERY hard to come by. I know of two and one of those is in a private collection and NOT for sale. The other is still (was the last time I spoke to the owner) a possibility. If anyone here knows of a stripped post, 4-speed, with NO options---PLEASE contact me. The car I seek is for my small collection and personal use. Thanks, Dave.

I know you're concern. Your cowl tag shows this:

The W45 is a package straight out of the 1970 ordering guide. From the W Machines resto guide; Spotter Tips on Option W45 - Rallye 350

* All Lansing built
* Cylinder head number 6 is cast on front and rear of cylinder head
*If carpet is original, broadcast sheet may still beunder the drivers side front seat. If so, W45 will appear on broadcast sheet
* Paint code may not appear on cowl tag. (- - ) 51 Sebring Yellow was special order.

So I guess bottom line is the cowl tag may or may not have the W45 stamped on it.
Allan who's tag is this.

This thread is very useful information for me, especially on production numbers for the Rallye cars, and the W31 models manufactured. I never really knew how anyone could prove either car unless they had a bill of sale or window sticker. Maybe the broadcast sheet.

A w-31 automatic is easy to prove if it has it's' vin matching JO code trans.

No build sheet was available for Lansing built cars until about 1977. You might find the broadcast card under the floor mat, or under the rear seat, It should have W45 on it.
