What The Heck Is This??

I rebuilt my front seats in my 65 and found one of these under each front seat.
Is the rare factory installed fart diverts??

Looks like a place to store a holster.

Really doesn't look like a factory thing. Those hex head bolts/screws are they self tapping type? If soo maybe a DIY thing. Did it have power seats? maybe to stop something from catching on the sliders?

Both my '65's had those doodads. Must be factory but who knows what for...I'm going with fart diverts too.

I've found them on 1964's too. Fart dividers sound as good as any guess I could come up with

Not on my 65 98. Maybe AC cars only? Curious.

Those are heater diverters as someone else mentioned. Somewhere I have an assembly manual picture of these. If I recall they were specifically for bucket seat cars that had consoles. The vent in the middle in front of the console is different then the bench seat one. It splits the air left and right at an angle. The diverters straighten it back out and send it to the back, in theory.

Seems like the fart divert capability is just an added benefit I wonder if this was pointed out in any of the factory literature.
