Well crap!!!

I just noticed a tiny crack in my dash pad. Damn junk, it only lasted 53 years!!

If like to either repair or replace before the tiny crack becomes really ugly. What are my options? I’m guessing a replacement dash pad will also be kinda brittle unless it was stored out of the sun.

69 Cutlas dark blue interior. I’m guessing any replacement pad will need to be dyed to match the rest of the interior

Distraction/camouflage, much easier and cheaper than replacement.

Been there, done that on my '72. After weighing my options, I elected to go with a dash cover from Covercraft. Considering you have a dark blue interior, the black dash cover will look fine.

Post a picture so we can see what you're looking at.

I went with Dash Designs, I've got one of their covers in my 79's as well as my 94 and 96. They make a custom size, and depending on the pattern you get, they kill the glare the dash puts on the windshield, especially a dark color. Throw one over and it hides all the ills of a bad dashboard. Mine were around $65. I elected not to use any velcro to hold it down.

I don't care if it rains or freezes...

That looks AWESOME! I've considered doing the same for my 71 98.

Here's another option, they may have dash covers for Cutlii:

Ooops, here's a link to an older thread on repairing dash cracks.

The crack is centered above the drivers side dash vent.

About the same diameter as a penny.

If you're willing to remove the dash I think the Polyvance epoxy repair I motioned in the linked threads is the best option for repair. Either that or send it to Just Dashes. If you have the patience of a saint and Jay Leno's checking account.

Crazy glue the crack/s and get the vinyl edges to stick together.

If they can vinyl wrap a car you’d think someone would come up with a decent dash repair using it.

I have seen leather dash covers stitched onto the dash of a classic car. I'm pretty sure it requires dash removal though. Using vinyl wrap is a good idea. I'm sure a good shop could do it.

I don't think anyone has mentioned these. I'm pretty sure it comes in non-A/C as well:

FWIW you can still find unbroken 68 non A/C used dash pad for less than $400. A/C ones can bring quite a bit more

i guess I’ll keep my eyes open for a good used dash pad. And if the tiny crack gets worse, the dash pad is a option. It sucks, other than that tiny crack the dash pad appears flawless.

I’m definitely going to be patient and try and find a better dish pad. I just got an estimate from Just Dashes for 1700 bucks. The dash will have to get much worse before I spend that kind of money on a dash.

Live with it, it's not that bad .
like you said it's 53 years old.
you could wind up with many other things broken by taking that dash out and putting it back. my 2 cents

Hey Matt

ive used a kit like this before to make something worse than that crack look a lot better.

If you try it I would practice a couple times to get the routine down before applying it to the dash.

the kit came w different grains to simulate the dash grain.

in my case the repair showed due to color mismatch, until i recolored the dash. After install the repair was mostly inconspicuous due to location. I think if your careful you could make that crack harder to notice.

nice option that I was not aware of. Thanks for posting.. I know where a cracked 68 dash not installed is I may price a wrap on it.

I agree, it will have to be a lot worse than that before I’ll fix it. I wasn’t sure if anyone had had luck with vinyl repair kits. Since the damage is right in plain sight, unless the color matches perfect the repair will probably look worse than the crack.
