Wanted to introduce my 69 Cutlass
Wanted to introduce my 69 Cutlass
Hi All,
As you may know I am fairly new to classic Oldsmobiles and recently sold my first car a '72 Cutlass S due to rust issues. Last month I acquired another Olds, a '69 Cutlass S. This car is a lot more solid and nearly 100k less miles on the motor.
Found this car on C/L in CT from the original owner. Its been garaged for its entire life and I have documentation for the 44k miles in the form of several maintenance receipts through the years. Also fortunate to have the bill of sale, protect-o-plate etc.
The car needs some tlc but is overall an upgrade from my previous car. The 350 runs great and I couldn't believe how smooth it cruised on the highway at 75 mph from Hartford to Long Island.
I've added rally wheels (thanks @WTony) and a sport steering wheel (thanks @79MKII) and its made a real positive difference in the look of the car. Thinking about adding rally hood stripes or a dual exhaust next. Would really welcome any expert feedback positive or negative.
Thanks!
Bill

Thanks all, I appreciate it!
Always liked the 442 solid stripe look and w/ the depth of the sable color I thought it may make it look a bit sportier. Not sure if Cutlass' should have the stripes though? The other option is to save up for a new paint job and add stripes at that time. I am quite partial to trophy blue

Nice looking car!
We have a '69 Cutlass "S" post car, bucket seats/console.
It was my daughters first car.
We've made a 4-4-2 clone of it.
I like the double pin stripe around each hump in the hood.
If you decide to do it, I have two original paint hoods that have the stripes-one from a Cutlass and one from a 4-4-2.
I can get you photos if you like.
Also, the '69 assembly manual has illustrated details and dimensions for the pin stripes and the solid W-30/31 stripe.

Nice solid, clean, original, documented, rust-free low mileage Cutlass! Love the color combo also. Nice find! As you add upgrades, be sure to keep all of the original parts so you, or the next owner, can always go back to 100% stock.
love a nice '69......
er... 1969
she is beautiful I also love the color combo.....I would say pin stripes instead of the wide 442 stripes..... I have also seen someone here add the 68 side stripe on a 69 and it looked great ( but not correct if your that way inclined.) please keep us posted....

Nice. My car started out sable/parchment also but changed to red in the 80's (originally sold in Nebraska
). I like the idea of pinstripes with the current color and duals are always good. Body color SSII's and sport wheel not available in '69 but look nice. Make it how you want it, other than silly giant wheels!

Howdy neighbor! The vinyl stripe is a decal form of hood stripe instead of having it painted on. Cheaper and not permanent, but probably doesn't look as good and obviously doesn't last as long.
