w-27 installation kit instructions

I know slim chance but does anyone have the installation instructions for the dealer installed 1970 w-27 cover. I need a copy of the reference to California cars.

I have just learned that the w machines ordered in California with the w-27 had the fin to the right of center ground off to allow clearance for the extra emission parts near the gas tank. It explains why my w-27 cover is modified. Look at the picture at levelonerestoration.com and you will see what I mean. Joe of our group was able to provide this interesting bit of trivia. I always though my cover had been damaged.

wish I could help but I will point out that is a crazy stupid cool detail that is hard to believe that there is information out there for or someone even remembers it. wow very neat detail, wonder how many people thought they had broken covers.

I have spent a lot of time trying to make the car correct and doing research. Hopefully it will show at Reno. Since I am only doing one car it has been really fun to learn all this stuff. I have had more w-30 than most people but never got into the numbers game till I restored one. It has been really interesting.

Gary at Level One is doing all the work. Imagine all the calls he gets from me. He is the person you should pity although he is a real artist and loves the detail stuff. You have probably seen some of his work. He has never done a Calif smog car or a w-27.

Most of his customers have much more money than me and collections of cars and just want to pick up a finished car at the end. Our car has been part of our family for 30 years and I have saved to do this restoration.

I think it is great its sorta like the quest to find a car is as much fun as the car itself. Have you looked on real olds power they have a restoration section on there?

Not the bulletin, the installation instructions that came in the box with the cover, bolts and gasket. Joe is trying to find it and I will send him a pm to clarify what we need.....

I searched a bunch of combinations on ROP of "w27, california, cover, & emissions and came up with nothing.

The fin being trimmed off (w-27) on a California car, again was only done on California cars. There is documentation for the procedure, and the documentation was inserted in the box for the w-27 cover package. The cover was sold over the counter as a pakage that included the cover, bolts, and gasket. To clarify, it was in the package that outlined the porcedure. Further, they routed the fuel lines on a California car differently up by the tank.

Looking at your restoration photos, you have the whole w-27 rear axle carrier and cover. Which was only available with the W-30, W-31 or W-32 in 1970 from the factory. Do you happen to have a build sheet with this car? I do believe that you could order a W-27 rear end through the dealership if your dealer knew the right "avenues" to travel. That is going to be a SWEET ride once again thanks to you and Level One. I have to say you have my attention and please keep us posted on progress with photos if possible. And best of luck on finding out the info on the shaved fin diff. cover. The only thing I could find was a note to assemblers to avoid any over spray on the cover at the factory.

Thanks Scot for the nice comments. I have all the order documents on my car from the original owner and the pictures on the site are one month after it was delivered. It was ordered with the w-27 which makes it very rare indeed. Lee

Also thanks Joe for helping me out.

Lee, is this what you are looking for? It was in my NOS W27 cover box. I hope the link works.

Tom and Joe, thank you for helping me with what Steven calls a crazy stupid cool detail that very few people will appreciate on my restoration. I guess the little things I have found will make my restoration and car over the top. I tried to print the link and could not. Tom could you send that sheet to my email address smartpearl1@yahoo.com. I will include it with my display material at the nationals in Reno. Doing one of the few California w-30s has been very interesting. Inline tube had to make a special extra fuel line that they had never seen too. Lee
