Vinyl Top Colors, need some help

My 72 U code Supreme has rust in the panel behind the window and will need to be replaced. I have a new panel and will end up replacing it if the car doesn't sell before hand. Obviously the top will have to be removed and it did come with a brand new top to put back on. The problem I have is that the car is Saddle Bronze with saddle interior and I'm really liking the color but the tan top kills it for me. I like the look of a vinyl top but it just doesn't seem to work with the orangish Saddle Bronze. That said, I've seen Saddle Bronze cars without a top and it seems like something is missing. So the question would be, do I put the tan top back on for the sake of being original, do I leave the top off but put the trim back on, or what other color works with the saddle Bronze? What was offered new in 1972?

Have you considered a black or brown vinyl top? I'm not sure what vinyl top colors Olds offered in 72. I do know that there are two different vinyl top styles available for the 98s in the early 70s. I imagine one was a top installed by Oldsmobile and the other was a top installed by the dealers. Unless everything else on your car is concours I wouldn't suggest worrying about keeping it original.

BTW, post pics stat!

Black or white are options that were available.

My 72 U code in high school was white with a white top and saddle interior and I loved it. I had every intention to paint this one white but I think keeping it original would be better, not to mention the Saddle Bronze looks nice when it's new paint. And I wouldn't mind selling it.

Black, white, saddle tan, or covert beige.

Thank you Joe. I'm guessing I have Covert Beige so I wonder what the Saddle would look like on the top. I've never seen that. Anybody have a pic?

Black would set it off.
Black is easier to keep clean vs the lighter colors.
Or go body color and eliminate the top trim.
Or paint the top black or white leaving the vinyl trim on.

Thank you Oldsfan. I've never seen the Saddle top but that looks pretty good. My other problem is the OAI hood. As far as I know every OAI hood had stripes, unlike a Chevelle where you could not choose the stripe option. (Stripes were an option not standard so they are not stripe delete, but that's a whole other story) So I'm also trying to pick a color that will work with the stripes.

You should be able to request vinyl samples from the supplier. That way you can see them in natural light next to your car. BTW, where are you buying the vinyl top material from?

OAI cars were available without the stripes.

The car came with a new top the same color still in the box and if someone buys the car it will go with it.
