vin # whats it mean
#2
It's on the driver's side dash up close to the windshield.but it's easier to read from the outside of the car.Depending on the car/year etc. It can tell you alot. Post it and we'll be happy to help you out.

well, I could be wrong - I know this is correct for 1955 - maybe it changed in '56. Try asking on the "All 56 owners ck in" thread started by Hileah56.
Regardless, the VIN won't tell you much beyond the year and series and what plant it was made in. The Cowl tag on the RH side (near the hood hinge) will tell you the body number, style, and give codes for paint, interior, and major options. You'll need access to a '56 shop manual at the least. Best bet would be to take a picture of both the VIN tag (on the driver's door pillar near the interior light pin switch), and of the Cowl Tag - post them on here somewhere in the "Vintage Oldsmobiles" Forum, and someone with more '56 knowledge than me will surely help you.
Good luck
