Value of fun 1977 Olds 442 Project

I have a 1977 Olds 442 that I bough in highschool and got running in my neighbors driveway. I've used it through college and have had a ton of fun with it, but now I'm looking for something a little more fuel efficient. It was a fun, diy project that I painted with a brush, so I realize its not going to be worth a ton. That being said, what do you guys think something like this is worth? (Details in Craigslist ad)

*My apologies if this is would be better posted somewhere else...

Since you asked...IMO it's a $1500 car. I'd say ask $2500 & take $1500 if its offered

Ask $3500, take the best bid?

Ask what you think its worth and settle for what you feel is right. Remember you can always go down in price.

My father just recently sold his 1977 Cutlass for $4k in Dallas, TX. He was asking $7k if I remember correctly. His car wasn't a 442 but was pristine except for a little bit of rust starting at the rear passenger's fender. I think $1500-$2500 is a realistic expectation for your 442. GLWS.

Thanks! That's about what I was thinking... My only conundrum at this point is timing... Since the car's value is so low, I may just hold on to it. My main reason for selling now would be to get a better price but I may do better just driving it for as long as possible and then selling for parts... Would a car like this be worth $1000 sold for parts?

The problem with selling a car for parts is that you need a place to store it. Plus, you have to be willing to market all of the parts to get as much money as you can from it. Not only the engine and transmission are valuable. The grill, headlight buckets, tail lights, glass, wheels, etc. are all valuable for someone doing a restoration. It might just take awhile to sell.

I was thinking less of parting it out piece by piece and more of just selling the whole thing as a donor car for a more serious project...

Well, if you're selling it as a whole rolling car, the buyer's ultimate use for it isn't really relevant. You're selling it as a complete vehicle regardless and putting "for parts" in the ad only eliminates the buyers who might want to use it as a functional automobile.

Curious, what engine and rear axle ratio does it have? Any engine work done to it?(timing chain?)

Since it is suitable to be used as a driver or for parts, I believe $1500/$2000 is not unreasonable...

It's got the 350 with a 4bbl carb. No timing chain and I haven't touched the engine besides replacing the intake manifold gasket & such... I'm not sure on the rear end... never checked that... It's 10 bolt/8.5" gear, but beyond that I'm not sure.

You mentioned the main reason you're looking to replace it is to find a vehicle that gets better fuel mileage. Is it still running? Do you have a good title for it?

Yep, she's still running strong. She's my daily driver although I don't driver her everyday... and the title is clear.

That's good to hear. It's always a bummer to see a cool classic with a bad title or not running. Just post it for sale and see what comes of it. GLWS!
