Trunk Vacuum Release Actuator Rod

This still doesn't look right for a-bodies but it looks closer than anything I've seen yet. The actuator side of the rod that goes into the trunk lock looks too long.

Any input on whether you guys think this can be made to work would be appreciated

This is a pic of what I believe to be the correct actuator

I have a 69 Convertible with the trunk release option and I need the exact same part.
I've been looking for a few years now. IF you find something that works or if you come
across more than one of these PLEASE let me know.

FWIW I asked The Parts Place if they had any plans to reproduce the A-Body one and they said no

I'd bet that these pieces are cast and can't be easily welded

Exactly. I've found a few but like the pontiac piece you came across they just don't fit.
Mines gone. I pulled it years ago and took it to a shop that thought they could fix it. I went back a couple days later and they had bailed on a midnight move. My lock was gone but I was lucky enough to get my dual snorkle air cleaner base out of the garbage. He'd asked to borrow it so he could make another out of parts.

I think if it is made of metal it can be welded.
Worst case, tiny screws.

That's what I thought too. It's a pot metal if I remember correctly. The guy I handed mine too was a fabricator with jeweler experience. He was set up to weld aluminum, stainless - anything. I didn't know he had mental issues and two days later his shop was empty and my lock was gone. This was maybe 15 years ago.

I contract a machine shop for work that could probably make those.

I'd be interested in that. I guess the first step is to find one to get measurements. That's a difficult first step

If someone could do something as simple as tracing the piece that goes into the lock on a piece of graph paper I could look at what it would take to modify the Firebird one.

They'd need an original. I've seen like one of them in 10 years for sale however there are plenty of people that have them. Maybe someone could lend one to be point scanned.
