trunk splatter paint - 69

I am sure this has been discussed, but I didn't find anything in my search.

What are you guys using for trunk splatter paint, esp for 69? I have seen products that require a clear coat, some that don't, and some restorers are creating their own methods...

Would be interested to know what your using, and photos of the results....

I have 2 69 trunks to do. I recently used a Zolotone product and really liked it, but it did not have the fleck concentration I was hoping for...

Thank You
tim

It's been a while (almost 20 years now) but I seem to remember there were two different colors used depending upon what year vehicle. I found the color I needed in the Duplicolor section at the local store. Sprayed on without using clear over it and it still looks good.

This what several of the restoration parts places are selling. I used it and it looks/works great. Shop around though. Walmart lists it as well as several other places. I've seen it selling or $7.95 up to $24.99 per can. For the exact same stuff. Watch the shipping charges too, I guess the restrictions causes the shipping to be crazy.

Part number DM-100.

I used the Eastwood kit with the clear, came out nice! Pic's don't do it justice.

Tim,

The product that OPGI sells seems to get a lot of good reviews, but a gun with a larger tip is needed to apply it.

Even though I have little to no rust in my trunk, I coated the whole trunk with POR15 especially the hard to get to seam areas using heavy brush applications. After thorough curing I then applied the splatter paint and clear coat.

I have used many over the years restoring Oldsmobiles and I like Eastwood their products are good and if you use theirs get the aqua specs as this is the right one for the 69 and use the clear no matter what! If not it wont last as long and if alot of water gets int he trunk for a length of time it will lift the paint without the clear.

The Parts Place sells a setup that requires no clearcoat. I have used it on a few cars now and won't use anything else. great stuff, comes in quarts and you need a large nozzle gun to get the fleck right.
