Trim and Paint Codes from 64-72
Trim and Paint Codes from 64-72
I am wondering if there is any publication out there, preferable online, that has a compiled list all of the available print and trim codes for the F-85/Cutlass/CS series from 1964-1972 at least. if the same codes are used earlier and later than this time span, all the better.
Question: are these codes reused meaning that, for example;
Paint Code A (Ebony Black) is the same code used for 64-72
-and/or-
970 (Black Bucket Seat) is the same code used for 64-72
-and/or-
E (tinted glass) 2E (a/c) is the same code used for 64-72
-and/or-
5V (442 package) is the same code used for 64-72
I suspect that there may be some subtle differences between years, and that's fine, but a "master list" with all data in a single reference would be a huge help.
Also a bonus question; Are the same paint and trim codes used for non-F-85/Cutlass/CS series? For example; Is the "E" code for tinted glass the same for a 88/98/Toronado?
Thanks all....

The above codes you mention are accessory codes, not paint and trim codes. There is no factory info on these codes, just compiled information.
Accessory codes were used with Lansing and Framingham cars, but only '64-'67. They are not exactly the same from year to year, neither are paint codes and trim codes.
Thus, an accurate master list is not possible. Spend some time going through the factory documents. It should be well worth your time. Education is usually not cheap and fast, but you're fortunate to have these online resources free of charge.
I know that Ebony Black has several different codes. From 64-67 it was code A. For 1969, it was code 10, then from 70 - 76 it was code 19. Note: in 1972 code 19 was not offered on any of the GM A bodies; it had to be special ordered. It was however available on the B/C lineup.
TRM code 970 is not the same from 64-72. There is a variety of black trims. Although black is a color theme, the stitching pattern changes the other digits of the code.
E/2E you'd find these codes on the cowl up till 1967. After that the coding changed to A01 or A02 depending on whether the car was just tinted front window or all tinted glass.
5V refers to column 5 and the 442 option on cars up to 1967. In 1968 442 became its own model and then the 'option' was for W30. In 1972 the 442 became an option again as the W29 and W30.
All this information is available on the WAC website, which is electronic. You can also find it in the Assembly Manual for respective years.

Thanks Kurt. I threw this together between a break at work, and yes I meant to mention accessory codes as well as paint/trim. Ok so I think that I see where I was confused here. Looking at the cowl for a 67 car, this one has a BF code (Fremont) but does not have the same pattern as other non-Fremont tags that I was looking at. So the accessory codes are not the same as the trim codes (see attached), got it.
I am aware of Wild About Cars and love the resource. I was hoping that there was a compiled list somewhere, so, big job ahead. I did run into the Parts and Accessories Catalog which may take some of the research pain away.
Hi Allan, What I was dreaming about as far as "electronic" resource was a spreadsheet that had all the data in one big pile. You see, there is this idea in my head that I can't let go of...

I'm really surprised at the low body number on this car, given it's second week of June production date code. Freemont's production numbers for 1967 started at 100005 and I always thought they started their new model production in late July or early August. So seeing this in June is surprising unless there are other numbers that are not showing? Just stretching my eyes, but it looks like there could be an 8 or 3 followed by a 2??
The cowl tag you posted has consistent information about the TRM codes. The car is a Sports Coupe (aka post coupe) and the TRM is 920. That's 100% consistent with the trim codes I'm looking at for 1967 for Sports Coupes. If it had been a Holiday Coupe (33817) it would have TRM code 970 for the black themed bucket seat interior. IIRC in 1967 the 442 option was only available on the CS.
The option (accessory) codes B80 and B90 refer to the chrome window sill moldings and chrome window frame enclosures. The number sequences below that are related to references on the actual build sheet (order). This would be a stunning looking Saffron 442, possibly like this one:

To put a spread sheet together on all the data is a major undertaking; I wish you the best in your compilation.

oldsmobility.com is a site I use for much 67 442 info.
Edit: Also, a good way to verify late production automatic 442s in that year is via the Super Gonzo Snorkelless Air Cleaner.
This one's mine, still in project stage.

Good one! I'll pop them back in. Don't want to end up like Marty Feldman. Really curious about that body number though and whether there's more to it than what we can see. My bad on the pic, that's a 33817, but the color and general appearance is what I was trying for
This one should be closer.
This one should be closer.
I intend to do more than just a spreadsheet. If I get the idea developed I am hoping that I can get some beta testers from CO. Not sure when I get it done but hoping it will be in the next couple of months.
