Tranny making LOUD noises

I took my car out last night for a quick spin 10mins and by the time I pulled into my driveway I noticed my car making a loud clanking noise. I really don't know how to describe this noise other than it sounds like a socket is bouncing around in my torque converter. When I rev the engine it goes away but as soon as I let off the gas..... There's that clanking noise!! What in the world is that??

My first guess would be to check the torque converter bolts on your flywheel

Agreed - loose TC or crankshaft bolts, though there are plenty of far less benign possibilities.

Does it do it with the car in neutral/park? If yes then it is from the torque converter forward. If no it could be anything from the trans back. Good luck.

Hey Sampson, it does it from the moment I start the car. In park, neutral, and in drive, the noise is there. If I rev the engine the noise goes away.

Cracked flywheel, or loose bolts
as Eric suggested.

Damn once again the car didn't win!! For all those that lent a hand thanks ...... The TC bolts were loose and causing my flywheel to spin against my starter housing. So glad it was that simple.

Did you do a trans or motor swap recently?

BLUE locktite??? Ew...never used the stuff, always go full throttle with the red locktite...haha Especially on parts I can't get to or need to stay for extended periods of time.

Red needs heat to release, blue doesn't.
Both hold about the same.

Your choice.

Eh. It's usually all for show anyway.

Unless it's because you didn't pay 'em...
