timing tabs- the same or different between 330 & 455 blocks

In the middle of putting a 455 in my car, removed the original 330.
I re-used the timing tab off the 330, since the 455 block was bare when i got it.

The tab has a pretty big space between it and the balancer, and looking at some pics online and most are really close to the balancer- so thinking I may have the wrong one.

Are the tabs the same for both 330 & 455, or are they different (ie 330/400/425 & 350/400/403/455)

Thanks-
Ben

Probably the tab from a 4-bbl 330 with the larger damper sporting a rubberized outer ring. Not the 2-bbl 330 with a very small hub and no outer ring.

Yes, why not get the right tab, they are not uncommon, I have dozens in the garage.

The timing tabs are also reproduced and readily available from vendors (not to take a sale away from Chris... )

Of course, the 1964 330 tab is unique unto itself.

Sorry but I'm still not understanding the answer.

My 330 was a factory 4bbl unit and has the larger damper. So are you saying that one should be the same as a 455 would use or not?

I'm trying to determine if I should order a repop, instead of just spending $20 + shipping only to find its the same as the one I have, thats why I'm asking.

I'll post a pic of what i have now, maybe that will help.

If your tab looks like one of these two, it will work.

Yeah, both the 1964 330 2-bbl and 4-bbl versions is unique. [sic]

For best accuracy you should use a timing tab that matches the OD of the balancer in use. There are at least 3 different OD's-

1) Small OD pre-68 ringless 2-bbl [and much later cheeseball 307's]

2) Huge OD pre-68 damper ring 4-bbl and BB

3) Medium OD most engines 1968+ all including the '68-70 with an extra medium-huge lip on the fwd part of the OD.

What you have is CLOSE, and probably close enough. Your call. How much is accuracy and correctness worth to you? I tend to be a stickler for details like that. Then again, I have a few extras. I wonder why someone would buy a reproduction part if a factory original is available, for this item. Easier 1-stop shopping and new appearance I guess.... will impress a buyer possibly, more so than a pitted original. I have not tried EVERY aftermarket part, but in my limited experience aftermarket parts very often do not fit right and/or work right, and the vendors are not interested in making changes or corrections. Aggravation saved if you can tolerate imperfections in a used factory issue part.
