Thank You

Just wanted to say thank you (and apologize for the thread spamming) for all the help and information the members of this forum have given me.

My mechanic said that I should honestly just drive the car for the summer and take my time looking for a replacement motor vs rushing to find one or rebuild it. Apparently the smoking goes away once the car is warmed up, and the "rod knock at 2k rpms" isn't anything to really worry about for a while, and neither is the lower oil pressure (12-13 idle, 20-25 driving).

As much as I'd like to drive worry free, im gonna drop the 3k to have my 330 rebuilt. But don't worry, I'll be back to ask dumb questions like what headers I can fit in a 67 or how to jack up the front end.

It will be worth it in the long run. I've done the same for both of my cars and it's nice to know you have a good, solid, reliable runner.

Say, your call sign - are you a USCG veteran? I did 27 years in the USCG.

Good luck with the rebuild. Where in Detroit are you?

Thanks for giving some feedback and updating your thoughts. There is always something to do with these old cars and driving them can be most enjoyable. Good Luck with your plans.

Ah, much better than within the city, safer for you and your car.

That’s a good plan.

For reference, here’s how my 311 (307) from 2007 sounded with a spun bearing. There was literally no bearing in the cap, the crank was stepped, and there was barely 5psi oil pressure at hot idle. You can hear it knocking at idle, and then screaming at ya when I let off the throttle.
