TH350 or TH400

In the 1970-72 Cutlasses with a 350, could the car have the option of a TH350 or a TH400? Seems like I have heard of both being available.
Thanks

I never heard of a Cutlass with a 350 engine having a TH400 from the factory.

I believe the 68 Ram Rod was only offered in manual, and the later W-31s could have special TH-350s, JO, I think. This leads me to believe that one did not get a TH400 with a 350 Rocket.

I have seen numerous unmolested station wagons with 400 transmissions and 350 engines.

Maybe that’s a station wagon thing?

No T400 behind any 350ci motor, only 455 equipped cars got the T400 in 70-72

You are correct. I checked the 72 specs book. May be true for other years.

Vista Cruisers and 88s could come with 350 engines sometimes of both 2 and 4 barrel variety and M40 TH 400.

The flattop wagons came with the TH350 behind the SBO, period. The small block Vista and Delta 88 came with the TH375. This is a light-duty TH400 that used the TH400 case but fewer clutch plates in each drum and the smaller TH350-sized output shaft. The TH375 was only built in the long-tail version, which is why it was only used in the long-wheelbase cars like the Vista and B-body. The TH375 is easy to identify, as the tailhousing has 375THM cast right into it.

The 69 station wagon I got my disc brake setup from was a 350 car, and had a 400 trans. A friend of mine parted out a 70 wagon also had a small block and 400 trans.

This was probably 20-25 years ago, long before wagons became desirable. At that time, they were parts cars. I have slept a lot since then, I don’t recall if they were cutlass wagons, or vista cruisers, or much about either of them other than they were both green.

Well, like I said, the only "TH400" that was factory installed in an 1969 Olds wagon with a 350 motor was the long tail "OA" code TH375 in the Vista.
