stuck gas pedal
I just took the new 1969 Olds out for a spin and the accelerator cable stuck, spent half a minute doing a burn out pulling at the accelerator on the floor before I just shut off the ignition before the tires went. Any one know how to fix this?

Check your linkages at the carb first of all, Has the car been sitting? Has the accelerator cable been stiff prior to the burn out?
When you manually pull the accelerator cable back to full throttle with the car off does the lower linkage grab the tab and not allow the cable to move back?
Which carb are you running?

If the throttle cable was stuck through lack uf use it might be wise to check out other linkages such as the parking brake and perhaps the inside of the drums.
Why didn't you simply turn the ignition off as soon as you realised you had a problem?.

Both times I've had a stuck throttle, it was due to the cable being frayed internally. They do wear our eventually. Easy to check - just disconnect from the carb and see if the cable moves freely.

If he has a broken engine mount then the fan would likely be hitting the shroud making a lot of noise when accelerating. JMO
Actually now reading more suggestions,
I'll put my money on Eric and Joe's suggestion with a frayed cable under the sheath 1st.

I'm not sure how a broken motor mount causes a stuck throttle with a cable style throttle. With the rigid metal rod used 1967-earlier, no question it's a possibility, but the whole reason GM changed from metal rods to cables was exactly this problem, due to the big broken motor mount recall in the late 1960s. Also, this car will have the interlocking style motor mounts anyway.

Be sure you have a oem cable.
My car had an aftermarket cable when I first got it,had the problem of a sticky throttle.
Replaced it with the oem type with the rubber grommet and nylon bushing and no more problems.

Good point, forgot about the shroud. Does his car have a fan shroud?

Remember seeing many recalled GM cars with safety chains installed by the dealership to "catch" the engine if the event the engine mount failed.
