sport mirror glass replacement

I need to replace the original glass on my '70 sport mirrors. Anyone have any tips on how to remove these without getting me 7 years of bad luck?

Maybe ask a glass shop? When you do find out and do this please post pics for everyone to see the process? Not sure but I think you're going to have to break the old mirror..

I am already going to have the local glass shop cut the mirrors. Just seeing if anyone here had a hot tip to get the glass off the bezel it's mounted in. I don't wan't to ruin it.

Thanks 1970supremevert. but the replacement glass is not the issue. I don't want to ruin the metal backing the glass is in while getting it out. It looks kind of fragile. I thought there might be some members on here that had done this already. Anyone, anyone, Bueller?

Well the glass is not glued into the backing. Instead it is held in by the frame of the backing. To remove it I used a spring-steel spreader to work in between the glass and the frame at the bottom and gently worked it around. The metal is maleable but the glass is not so had to go very slowly around the ends where it is more rounded. When I put the new galss in I will see if I can just compress the metal back on by rolling it on my metal bench (don't think I'll need to take a trim hammer to it). In the 2nd pic you can see what seems to be tar paper behind the glass, I'll just leave that there must be for vibration control.
