Speaking of stripe abuse (redeux)

I also have to agree with the 2yrs minor/4yrs major refresh comment. There may be relatively minor differences between the '68 and '69 cars but, for the most part, they're damn near identical. They're vastly different than the prior years and quite a bit different than '70-'72.

I think the point he was making was in regards to the design feature of the '69's front bumper. The center sticks out further than the hood 'tooth' giving the appearance of an underbite.

The 69 dash plastic is the same except 68 has the key in the dash, not the column. The 69 dash pad was the same as the 68 A/C dash pad. The 68 bucket seats are one year only because of the plastic backs and the side release. The 69 bucket seats are one year only because of the orientation of the serration on the head rest bars. Obviously 1/4 panels and fenders are different although some late 68 fenders purportedly had dual hinge patterns with only backer nuts for the 68 location. 69 tub door openings have vents in the rear, 68 do not.
I'm sure there are a few other body sheet metal differences I'm missing

This is going from memory because I'm too lazy to research it:

How about the fender stripe being a one off? 1968 Triumph TR 250 was a transition year with the TR 4 body and the 6 cyl motor that was used for the next 6 years in the TR 6 models. Funny how so many of us chase the memories of cars that made an impression on us when we were younger. I still keep my eyes open for a 64 Pontiac Lemans 326 w/4 speed that I had in HS and have owned a 71 TR 6 for over 30 years that I saw a guy in in 71. I will never forget the day in 1968 while walking doen thw street and a guy in a 427 Cobra came rumbling down the road.

PS - I just realized the FB guy was talking about that fender stripe, need more coffee

As opposed to the "one-off" stripe on the 1971 442s? (And do you know how hard it is to find a photo of a 1971 442 without a repro W25 hood these days? )
Or how about the "one-off" 1972 stripes? (And yeah, same comment as above...)

I'll take a guess at this and say it was probably difficult to mount the emblems after paint, assuming the stone shield was on the car during paint. Probably a bad guess...the rocket emblem is still mounted to the shield.

I finally got around to reading this, I love all Cutlass's my dream would be a 66-67 (although I'm kind of a big car guy) and if it were up to me there would be no stripes on cars, I like them naked (Hmmm ) I think stripes are distracting and draw the eye from beautiful or flowing body lines and design cues, ( I know some say they are there to accent them) to me every one of the previously pictured vehicles would be just as nice with out the stripes. if your a guy that is seeking a totally correct factory vehicle and it came with stripes I totally get it bring them on and make them correct ! if your a guy who likes stripes but likes the stripes from a different year it's your baby do what makes you happy. Notice none of these vehicles have stripes to distract from their beauty.
What I found to be the elephant in the room that no one mentioned was a guy selling a car that didn't take the time to remove the blue protective coating from his new tires (guess he was advertising their newness) I guess I didn't notice that because I'm not in to stripes !

Speaking of stripe abuse. Emblem abuse etc. Seriously what ****... It's just crazy to me how people can F up a good looking car. GS 455 and Stage One emblems. Stripes right along the lines of the Johnny Lightning car. FAIL.
