Spam E-mail
Spam E-mail
Apologies if this has been discussed before. It may be pure coincidence, but since becoming a CO member, I've received many spam e-mail notes on almost a daily basis. Anyone else have the same problem? Is there a fix?
Thanks.
Thanks.
Strange...
Who is the sender of the spam and what are they referring to? Anything related to this site?
sometimes you can accidentaly set up for recurring emails like subscriptions to thread or such, but they can be easily turned off in your profile.
If you have a screenshot of the spam, it would be helpful.

Thanks for the replies.
The spam mail is coming from all sorts of origins (dating services, credit cards, vacation companies), and appears to not be related to the CO site. I'll check my profile, per your suggestions.

I have not heard of spam originating from info collected from this site.
I do not get spams like yours - 99% of mine are from internet drug dealers. Typical spam-bots.
BTW, looks like another Texan on the board! Howya like this hot weather down here??

This issue of SPAM arose at work couple years ago, and a co-worker of mine commented that he got a lot of E-mail relating to hair replacement, male "enhancement", hot singles, etc...his take on it was that these were all products that he was interested in, so it wasn't really a problem for him.
All kidding aside, I'd be surprised if this site is the cause of your SPAM problem.

18 days of 100+ temps have kept my Olds' garaged. I sometimes go for a spin on the bike after 8pm after it cools down to 96 or so...
That's like look'in up a horses a$$ and saying, "Whar's the Zebra?"

Spam comes with e-mail not by joining CO.

Most likely you e-mail provider has some kind of filter to help eliminate the junk e-mails.
Thanks all of you for your notes/suggestions. The more I've thought about it, I agree the spam is not the result of joining CO.
Perhaps coincidentally ordering car parts from websites, etc. at the time I joined may have spawned the spam. The dating service notes may be hidden suggestions from my wife (ha ha).
Hey, Lady72nRob71, thanks for the greeting. Being from Wisconsin originally, the further away I can get from snow/shoveling, the better. So, I don't mind the heat. I'm planning to attend the NTOC Zone Show. If you're attending, I might see you there.

I have had many coincidental things like that happen before. It is possible you accidentally clicked on a spam message, which downloaded a particular item from the spammers server, confirming your existance and the opened spam, so it distributed your address all around. It happens...
I should be there, weather permitting and that I DO decide to come back from vacation when I am scheduled...
New to Texas, eh?

I moved from Fond du Lac, WI to Kansas City, KS when I began my work career in '81 - moved to Reno, NV in '84 - to Dallas in '89. I'm still with the same company.
I very much enjoy the "winters" down here. Most months one can enjoy outdoor activities, including driving the Olds (when its not being restored, of course).
