Source for 7/8 20 drain plug?

Hello Gents,

just changed the oil the first time in my (replaced) engine.
Was surprised by the drain plug, not a standard one, seems my pan is from 64/65, according to supercars unlimited.
http://www.supercarsunlimited.com/in...ns/oilpans.htm

No chance for me to get it on this side of the ocean, even a look in your known onlineshops didnt help.
Someone an idea where to get it?

For now I reused the old one, but I am not to happy with this.

Thx and Regards,

Marc

Oha. Silence here is never good. Guess I‘ll have to make a metric thread in the pan.

Marc, you certainly stumped the board. Searching the net only turns up the tap. Going metric may be your only choice, or changing the pan. I hope you have success with your car. Viel gluck! This is the closest I could find.

Just a thought. Approach a local machine shop. A replacement plug or two could be made. Plugs don't seem to be complicated if you have the original as a sample.

I had the same problem and used the above drain plug from the referenced source. Works great, not original looking but works.

I searched Google for 7/8 -20 pipe plug and got the above results from Sumitt Racing. Note it is aluminim.
Are the threads on your plug stripped or is the square hole that is used to tighten the plug stripped?

Question is, are we SURE that the original is 7/8-20? That is not a standard type thread.

Once we figure out what he has, we can do shipping easily. If he can't get it, we can just mail him a couple. It's a bolt, to keep our friend on the road. Easy enough.

Any machinist knows that a 7/8-20 thread is a standard UNEF (extra fine) thread designation. So, Yes it is a standard thread size. Not a normal off the shelf item, but a standard thread. And that is what I used in my Olds pan. Fit perfectly.
