A couple of questions regarding sound deadener.

1. Should any gaps between the sheets on the floor be filled with foil tape to minimize water getting under?
I see some posts showing holes covered and others with all holes cut out.
2. Will I get vibrations from covered holes defeating the whole concept of sound deadening?
In particular, the seat divider has several holes.

 

That type of deadener reduces panel vibration.

Only about 60% of the panel needs to be covered to do this.

But I covered everything as you did. I taped the joints to keep it waterproof.

 

Seems to me that every little bit helps. These new products are light years better than the original rubberized paper stuff that came on the cars. I plan on doing this to my project when the time comes.

 

I slathered my floor pan with no gaps from trunk end to firewall up under the dash. No gaps. It works, but I do worry a little about trapping water underneath.

The 60% rule is a good one. I went overboard, just because I could. But I was happy with the result

It was good enough on the floor pan that I eventually did the roof of my ‘66 Starfire (hardtop coupe) between the steel roof and headliner.

What you learn is that when you have successfully deadened the big noises, the little noises come out.

Simply put, with these materials, noise is eliminated from the floor pan, but now you start hearing wind noise from vent windows and side glass.

Hope I didn’t depress you. I’m a big believer in noise reductions.
