Well maybe the *whole* story hasn't been told until now, but part of was.
Like in the article in the July '68 issue of Hi-Performance Cars featuring the Motion Mach 1 1968 W31.

In September 1968 Hi Performance Cars ran an article on the 1968 Hurst/Olds from Mack Markowitz Oldsmobile. The article shows the car as being Motion Prepped. Many of the photos used were stock GM photos of the car "Doc" Watson was showing around the country to the press and stock photos from the April 1968 Cars magazine 4-4-2 article including the 4 speed photo with the Lakewood Bell housing. Interesting article.

Dang- I missed that book. Always wondered if Markowitz ever actually built a Ram Lux Toronado.

I have talked to Joel Rosen as well as Norman Flesch, who's Dad Ira Flesch ran Markowitz in that era. I also talked to the owner of my Markowitz car who worked there then. I heard both versions of the story and probably some where near the middle is what really happened.

 

By all accounts, Markowitz received two 1968 Hurst/Oldsmobiles; Demmer number 132 and Demmer number 494. I have no record of 494 yet so I cannot say much about it. Car 132 is a post coupe W-45 car and the original owner drag raced it from day one. It has few options, other than the mandatory Hurst/Olds options; Door edge guards, a Sport steering wheel, Courtesy lamps and Power steering.

With new floor pans and quarter patches the body is repairable. I have better doors and front fenders too. I am trying to find some original photos of the car. According to the original owner, there may be a photo in a National Dragster news paper from the era, but I have not found it yet.

 

Mr. Motion, built some wild and powerful cars back in the day.

That Phase III SS is just cool. I know many now don't like the 73-77 A-body but the 73 and 74 Chevelle were clean designs, and I dare say the 73-74 GM A-bodies were some of the last really "styled" cars before the Fed bumpers ruined everything.

 

I thought the feds ruined the Colonnade cars?

 

The 73-74 Cutlass/442, 73-74 Grand Am and Laguna S3 were not bad looking cars to me.

 

I like them too.

 

There are only certain cars that can pull off the sidepipe look.

 

I dont like sidepipes at all, not even in Corvette. Side-exit fits some cars, especially when done well and not drooping before rear-tire almost touching the ground on level surface.

Friends keep me weird, since the classic ~70's musclecars dont do it for me.
Whatever being Mopar/Ford/GM/AMC.
Pre-musclecar era and right after it are my favourite bodystyles. In every size, not just mid-sizes.
Okay, Mopar fuselage's do make an exception. For example, take any year ~70's 2d ht Polara.. Aahh...
Im not into certain marques. How i got to Olds which i wasnt looking too much, was price and condition of the car meeting exceptionally well.
And i dont have anything to complain, i like this. Only marque i dont seem to have any interest is Chevrolet.. Dime a dosen here.
