Sick 66

Rolled 785 miles today. Tomorrow, we roll downtown to pick up the beginning and follow it out to Naperville, then pick that up Wednesday and onto Ozark. Got 12mpg rolling 80mph most of the way with the Gear Vendors. I've got a stupid big vibration between 60-70; it goes away under and smooths out over. Going to address that tomorrow, and drop in on Voodoo Larry Kustoms.

I'm playing with a Gopro, but it's not going well. Should have some good shorts, though. Will update...

fleming442 - Although you didn't explicitly say it, it appears you have driven all the way from Maryland to Chicago to start a Rt. 66 road trip. I was just at a nice car show on a stretch of Rt. 66 here in St. Louis this past Saturday. Safe travels on your adventure! 👍

Was a place in the 1970s in Urbana-Champaign, Illinois on South side of Green Street (and Neil St.) intersection who sold a near identical dog to Portillo's. The guy was from NY/NJ but he put skinny fries directly on the hot dog. The hot dog was listed on the menu as the "New York Garbage Truck" - absolutely delicious.

Don't know your itinerary, but thought you might enjoy this quick reference map of attractions found on, or very close to the old Rt. 66, as you're passing thru St. Louis and then to the southwest.

Been pretty busy with driving and racing. As of today, I'm 50 out of 154. Need to do some maintenance and I really should be working on it, right now. Run 1st tomorrow at Albuquerque, so I need to get some rest. Maintenance will have to wait until after the run; that's all there is to it.
A friend from MD is riding shotgun with his buddy in his Lightning, and grabbed this rad shot out the sliding window. This was climbing the hills in Los Alamos where we crested 9200ft.

I really like the way you use and enjoy your car! That’s the way it was done in the sixties and seventies. A testament to your mechanical abilities.

Realized you are traveling across the country in your '67 from the prior posts, but had no idea you were stopping at multiple tracks along the way to race. For those of us who love drag racing and these cars, it sounds like a bucket list trip for sure. Like TJ said, you must be a helluva mechanic to take her on a journey like that and racing along the way. I'm in awe! Love the pic in New Mexico, very cool! 👍 Hope you have the time to share pics of the tracks you went to when you get home. Keep the shiny side up and keep on truckin. Good luck!

It's looked like a fun trip, glad it's going well! One of my friends is racing the '62 Olds F85, twin turbo LS swap. He's got an 84 H/O too.

Ironically the start of Route 66 is 7 blocks east of our office, so I got a kick out of the picture looking down Adams St.

Thanks fellas. We wrap the racing portion up today at Alien City Dragway in Roswell, and I love aliens. 😁 Last night was a little maintenance thrash in the hotel parking lot amongst all the homeless illegal tourists. It was interesting, for sure. Definitely didn't have time for pics of that, and I had my Slap Jack ready to go. We've talked to Tom with the 62 a few times.
Check out Tom Bailey on YouTube under Sick Seconds. He's got summary vids up, and I hear Rosie makes a few appearances.

Cool trip, love that you are using a roof rack. Dad used one to carry a bunk-bed to Kansas City on the roof of my '68 back in the '70s. Didn't know there was a race track at Roswell. My oldest son and I spent the night there back in Dec '99. Those lonely stretches of 2-lane blacktop in the SW give a whole new meaning to being "in the middle nowhere". Beautiful vistas though. If you are heading west from Roswell, check out White Sands Natl. Monument.

Here is a link to day one recap, Bruce is one of the first cars down after the 2 min mark.

This not his first drag and drive either, guessing his 4th or 5th.
There is a couple of Olds powered rides on the event too.
Great stuff.

Great stuff.
This is my 6th event, 3rd with the car and 2nd successful. I've navigated with a friend on 3 others.
I think I had to concede victory to my rival, Chris Wozniak in the 73 Cuda. We were 48th and 49 going in to today. He made a lot of laps trying to catch me, and gutted the car. Love that guy! I never touched my sealevel, 93 octane tune, and he was all about grabbing every hundredth.
EDIT: i made 3 passes, Chris made 13 or 14. Overall margin of victory was 00038 according to Rovic

This was pretty cool. We heard that the Trinity Site at White Sands Missle Range was having their yearly viewing day today, so we left Roswell to cruise over there. Back to back World War Champions 🇺🇸

Then, it was on to Bakersfield, and dropped in on Craig Wright, Wright Connection Speed and Gear, and Vegas yesterday.

Totally signed the road leaving, and my copilot totally didn't tag the light pole.
Today was Bonneville

All ***** and no brains makes a fun time! Made it through the Rockies; Vail Pass was 10,630ft, and I still haven't touched the carb. 😁
