Replacing the aftermarket crap someone put in my 66 cutlass floor shifter..found a nice one to replace it but transmission shop says the handle wont work with the bracket..any ideas or help would be greatly appreciated.
The only thing I see is the shiter, like most of the 64 to 66 ones is broken, so you cant use the T Handle. You would have to use a shiftworks replacement for the handle https://shiftworks.com/collections/c...le-replacement
Not sure what they mean by, it wont work with the bracket, it appears you have all of the correct linkage.
If you want a picture of an unbroken one let me know.

the handle from the 68 wont match with the bracket from the 66. I think only a 65-67 will probably work.

Your 66 shifter is broken, as are nearly all of them today. There is no easy fix. While I have not personally tried it, some people have successfully swapped in the shifter from a G-body Olds, which looks very similar to the 64-66 shifter.
