screwed up... Bougth the wrong gas tank
So... we have a local classic supply place... carries a bunch of the chevy reproduction stuff. I called and asked if they had a 66 chevelle gas tank, thinking it was the same as the cutlass tank.
Drove down and got it.. got home and noticed the fill neck is slightly different. Rechedked my part numbers... chevelle tank is GM37B... Cutlass/442 tank is GM37G
Does anyone know if the chevelle tank will work, or will the fill neck be totally goofy? I don't want to take it out of its wrapping if i have to return it, so hoping i'm not the only dummy that has done this and wanted to know if it would work.
Also.. the Chevelle tank only has 1 vent tube- same as my tank, but the cutlass tank has 2 vent tubes? odd?
Thanks-
Ben

66 fuel tank
the 66 chevelle tank is as close as you will get to the 66 olds tank. you will need to remove the filler neck from your olds tank and install it into the chevelle tank. you can do it or have a radiator shop do it. the neck is sodered in.. i have had one in my 66 442 trac pac car for over 2 years with no problem.
the 66 olds tank had the vent tube ( single) at the front of the tank just like the chevelle and 67 olds tanks had the vent tube (double) at the rear.
for some reason the people that reproduced the fuel tanks think that 66 and 67 olds tanks are the same but they are not. i have tried in vain to tell them and sent pictures of both tanks to them for proof but they still say (no one has ever complained about it). oh well i tried
the 66 chevelle tank will work and is correct with a little work
