Rotten survivor

This car hit my local news feed on my phone and I recognized the parking lot so decided to have a look. It is advertised as "Unrestored, Original" but a casual look disproves that.

From just the one picture, it looks okay to me.

Here are some of the photos I took...

Definitely a repaint with some visible rust repairs and a few bits of overspray. I quit looking after I saw the "modified" fuel tank mounting strap.

It would probably be a great driver with just a few minor repairs, but to call it original is a big stretch. Body filler is visible on the hood and right rear fender, the paint on the front clip doesn't quite match (visible in person), goober welding inside the left rear fender well. It's 56 years old so it needs work, but to call it original, unrestored is a stretch. It has had work done, and some of it not so good.

That's one of those cars that is only worth parts to me, but they will still want ten large for it.

I laughed when I scrolled down to the picture of the fuel tank. Gotta love the redneck engineering!

Love the mud line on the right rear tire. that car sat in the mud for a while. Obvious repaint, and the gas tank "strap" and rust covering the bottom of everything just screams something that has sat exposed to the elements for a long time. Flipper special

This car is SUPER RARE as it is equipped with the ultra rare lightweight gas tank strap. It may have the equally rare Swiss Cheese Frame that Pontiac was known for.

Beach car. Salt spray and salty mist drifting inland can do a lot of damage over time. Looked a '71 chevelle, once, that had come from Corpus Christi. Tons of hidden rust and even rot, the entire inner roof structure was rotten, due to salt mist and condensation inside the car. The entire trunk floor was gone, but incredibly, the frame was fine, and the body bolts threaded right out. Strangest rust on a car ever seen. Horrible.

Gulf Coast is bad. I remember driving to Padre Island and when we stopped for lunch, condensation was literally pouring out of the car's A/C vents. I dont think anything EVER dries out around there.
