Removing the Lock Cylinder from Steering wheel

I am trying to remove my lock cylinder. It wll not release. It would not go in the locking position either is the reason I want to remove it. I can pull the key out even in the run position so this also tells me it needs to be replaced. My manual tells me to depress the release tab in the run position but I can not get it out. Any suggestions?

You've got the column torn down to the right spot. If the lock cylinder on your column has never been removed before, there will be a very thin film of metal over the chamber where you have to reach in with a small screwdriver to push the release tab on the lock cylinder. If you push in on that area, that thin film of metal will break through fairly easily. Once that area is clear enough, you should be able to see the release tab - just push on that spring-loaded tab with your screwdriver and the cylinder will come out. Reinstall your new cylinder in the same "run" position.

I was able to remove this portion of the steering wheel column and now should be able to get the cylinder out. I had to drop the column and remove the rod from the neutral switch. A little more work than I thought. now I just need to be able to find the replacement part.

Talking

I finally was able to remove the cylinder. I t was not easy at all. I finally had to take a hammer and big screw driver and drive it thru.

Did you pop through the thin wall to get to the release tab?

I tried that also. I could not get it out until I punched it out.Putting the new one back in was fairly easy. hopefully I never have to change it again.
