rechrome vs new

I am trying to decide between getting my rear bumper re-chromed or going out and buying a new/refurbished one. Right now, replacement ones w/o the exhaust cutouts seem to be going from $350 to $450. Getting my original one re-chromed would be slightly cheaper. But because I have not found any shops in my area that do chrome work, the shipping costs would be a killer. Needless to say, I'm torn on this.

What are the pros and cons on either side of the issue?

New Bumper

I have done both and going with a new one has proved to be a much wiser choice. Try Car id, they sell Goodmark products, good quality and fair price.

Several of the members here, including myself used OGDEN Chrome in Utah. More expensive, but they do pay the shipping. They will arrange for Fex Ex to pick them up and ship them back to you, paid. Their work is amazing! I didnt get the show chrome, I cant imagine it could be any better than their regular chrome. My bumpers are gorgeous. I believe it was about $600 per bumper, Im not sorry i used them!

A little late to this, but I had good luck using Keystone/LKQ. Price was good & shipping was basically free because I just dropped off/picked up at a local LKQ shop.

I don't know if they're in your area....

Some more info here...

Pros:
- Easy dropoff/pickup
- Relatively cheap
- Great cust svc
- Look great

Cons:
- Took 'em a few attempts
- Wouldn't use them for anything rare / hard to find (as I'm still not sure where mine went on their journey)
- They only do only big steel bumpers - no smaller parts
