rear end swap

rear end swap

the other day i was looking around for some lower gears because i have a stock rear end on my 86 cutlass wich is something like a 7.5 2.14 gear rear end and i was wanting to know if i could swap it out for and 8.5 posi trac 3.08 rear end and if 3.08 gears would be worth buying

if the other rear is an 8.5 for a metric car the housing will fit. a body housing is too wide. grand national,monte ss, h/o or 442 metric (g body) will fit. usually the also have 3.73 gears, some posi some not. they are not real common.

no they wont fit in a 7.5 housing. if you dont have brute strength in the motor a 7.5 will be fine. find a 80s camaro or s1o,might find a posi in one of those and the 5 sp s 10s usually had 373 gears. 4 spd ones had 342.
