Rear end gears

hey guys -I need some help. I decided to check my rear end gears. I jacked up the car and put it in neutral. I rotated the tire and the drive shaft rotated about 1-1/4 turns before my tire made a rotation. I checked several times because I didn’t believe it. I even did 4 rotations, and I counted 5 rotations of the drive shaft. I also tried both sides. Any suggestions?

Both wheels need to freely turn in order to get a correct count when doing it the way that you did, and that is hard to do (impossible?) without a limited slip rear. Without a limited slip diff, the wheels will not both turn the same amount and the differential action will result in what you are experiencing.

Block one wheel to prevent it from moving at all, then count the wheel / driveshaft rotations again, and multiply by 2 to get the actual gear ratio.

Since you got 1 1/4 turns of the driveshaft for one wheel rotation, I suspect you have 2.56:1 rear gears (1 1/4 x 2 = 2.5).
