Rattles, rattles everywhere

With a lot of help from online friends here, I think I have all of my mechanical issues resolved. Until tomorrow when some new issue will surely present itself. I’m thinking about tackling some of the annoying rattles. I fixed a very loud rattle behind the upper part of the dashboard. After removing the trim close to the windshield, I found the rattle to be the defroster vent vibrating against its metal surround. Fixed that with a narrow, u shaped piece of foam. My real concern is the door rattles. I suspect it is the windows moving in the lower window guides. What am I likely to find if I take the door panels off? What will I need to stop the excess movement? Are there rubber moldings that go in there? I assume I can get those at Fusick. What major problems am I likely to encounter? Thanks in advance.

You will need new fuzzes most likely. In time, they wear and rattle and the glass gets loose. Not a hard job but consult your service manual for the details, your glass will thank you for it often this is why glass cracks when you slam the door.....Tedd

Tedd,
Thanks for the reply. I’ve gone thru the service manual page by page and I don’t find anything about removing door panels or replacing channels. Have I missed it somewhere or is it in a different manual. I have the 1955 Oldsmobile Maintenance Manual.

I have a 55' super 88 that was restored several years ago. Take off your inner door panels and you should see two access doors that you then can remove. My car sat in a barn for 30 plus years. You would be surprised at the crap that is laying inside the doors. Once you've vacuumed out any crap check the drainage holes for debris. At this time you can check your window channels etc. Take pictures of what looks worn and lubricate any areas that need it with WD40. Any type of window channel sweepers etc needed, one of the following should have: Fusick Olds, Steele Rubber, or Restoration specialties in Pa. Good luck !
