Rag top fluid

Have a 67 rag top and the top takes forever to go up and down and there is a long pause after pushing the button until the top starts moving. Figured its maybe low in oil. Its says ATF on the motor, but any specific kind? Also, is it best to fill in the up or down position?

Any ATF will work it's just hydraulic fluid when it's being used in a top motor. Can you hear the motor running as soon as you push the button?....Tedd

yes. Its running just doesn't move the top for what seems like a minute or two. then periodically stops on the way up and down. I added more fluid, but didn't seem to help.

be careful running the motor continuously the motor gets hot quickly and is not designed to run a long time.
2 minutes sounds like a long time to me.
