Radio help…
Trying to install auto sound radio into 72 cutlass radio delete car. (The Oldsmobile radio bracket does not screw into the side of the new radio). How would one go about installing this? Take off lower dash etc I get that but do you need a single din bracket? Any advice is appreciated and I’m sure this has been asked before so I apologize if that’s the case. Thanks much!
The Autosound radio should have come with a support strap that bolts to the rear of the radio and you fabricate a way to attach it to the cars structure for support. The 2 shafts will support the front of the radio on the dash.
Did this car ever have a radio? If not you have to remove the blank-off plate, reaching up behind the dash to unbolt it and expose the radio opening and shaft holes.
The factory radios were heavy is why they had support braces at the rear. Aftermarket radios are comparatively lightweight and may not need one, but a piece of metal strapping secured to the radio chassis and dash lower tie bar will keep the radio stable and can serve as an additional ground.
For the record: THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A RADIO DELETE CAR. Radios were ALWAYS extra cost options, even in luxury brands. If a car has a blank-off plate it was either ordered without an expensive factory radio or someone removed it and covered the opening with the blank-off plate.

Are you trying to install a shaft-mount or DIN slide-in radio?
DIN is gonna require cutting a suitable opening in the dash.
cjsdad was a pro car audio installer. Check with him. Odds are he's seen this before.
