I was wondering if anyone could give some info on how to get a convertable top on a 67 convertable delmont up.The problem is the dash is apart switches are gone and I am not shure if the motor is fried or not.I have tried to get it to move but nothing.The other prob is the guy may have fried the convert motor the day I got the car.I figure you guys might be able to tell me what to do to test it as well as how to take the motor out if it is junk.I didn't locate the bolts that hold it on I seen rubber bushings but no bolts and there are lines that run from a tee fitting to both sides of the car.
while I am at it I am interested in any info on a 425 engine and th400 trans.I will need them in the future seeing the origionals are gone.I will most likley post a wanted ad.

I am not sure how the top on that Delmont works but you should be able to disconnect the hydraulic cylinders from the top and then get somebody on each side of the car and left the top manually. Most of the time these motors/pumps start leaking and are not usually fried. If it runs but leaks, you can probably take it apart and replace the o-rings in it. With the dash apart, it sounds like you have some work to do. If you do not have the factory service manual, me and most everybody else on here will recommend you get one. You can usually find them on ebay and the prices will vary. They should be about $25-$40.
I was reading this post and the funny thing is I never got that top up.I used two tarps and covered the car for winter but never got that stinken top up.I guess there is always spring to figure that out

The previous owner of my parts car told me that my convertible top worked perfectly. I never tried it. My dash is now taken a part but I could probably hook-up the wires to try it.

wow that parts car isn't all that bad it still had potential,well that is if the frame or anything wasn't rotted out.But from what i could tell still looked decent.I see quite a few parts that interest me.The sad part is we have to canbalize one to save another when these cars are getting more rare all the time,too bad full size car parts ruff to come by and the fact they don't remanufacture things like quarter panels etc for these cars.
True: My friend Tom is a Ford man who lives in Riverside, CA. He just bought a 1964 Ford Galaxie 500 parts car. There is no rust on it and the car looks too good to part out, but alas, he needs the parts for a convertible that he's restoring. Thoose guys in California start off with better metal than what we have in the rust belt.

I have tried that though I may not have done it quite rite.My main concern is the guy I bought it from could have fried somthing the nite I bought it as he was trying some odd stuff in a attempt to get the top to come up.
What I do (with clean feet) is stand on the back seat and just pull steadily and slowly on the roof and it will come up...the oil, if there is any, will bypass inside the motor....if you disconnect the lines and try it, it will be easier but messy
If the motor is in the trunk then the best bet might be to wire 12V to the correct terminal and then have a ground wire that is about 3 feet long that you can touch to ground in the trunk. That way you won't have to be upside down or sideways when you short the 12V and ground to the motor. Either that or use Yellowstatue's idea.
I will update and keep posted.I would hate to see your car sent to the crusher as well sad how many get squished.I have my fair share of ideas that would revive older vehicles.The problem is funding and space though you have to start someplace.
Update
The car has been moved to a storage place and I have yet to get the top up.I will have to get new or replacment top latches as they were sold found that out when trying to figure out how to make the top stay once it goes up.I have lots of plans for this summer and if all goes as planned many updates will be up from me.I will be looking for a barn or shop and start my projects.

My car is much older but I use to manually work the top with the rams disconnected,worked fine but took two people to getter done.
You really need to get the top up in order to reach the bolts(one on each side)that attach to the hydraulic rams . Your car may b different but I'm not sure if it could be done with the rams at the down position because of the lack of room to get to the bolt heads. For me trying to raise the top connected was almost impossible ...Tedd

Well here is a update the car has sat in the same spot for several years and I now have a shop to put it in though the tires are flat and may now be totally shot. I never did get the top up but I have lot of work to do on the car so that will be ironed out then. I will post on the progress and updates.
Well guess you have been waiting for quite some time then lol. I have quite the build up of projects but I needed a shop since were the cars are I can't work on them but in the shop I will be busy.
