I have just done a full rebuild on my 72 Cutlass, but I am missing the bolt which connects the engine bay wiring harness to the fuse block through the firewall. Any advice on where I could find this?

 

I have never seen a reproduction. I would think it would be pretty easy to find a used one. It’s been awhile since I messed with the firewall connector, is it a special bolt? Maybe you could find something at a good hardware store.

 

If you have a picture of it, I would dig through my olds bolts bin and if I have one I’ll send it to you.

Thank you for replying, unfortunately I was not the one who took the bolt out, as I had a friend over working on the brake master right above it. I have a picture of what I think it looks like, but I am not quite sure. I was hoping somebody would know what it looked like.

A quick look, I could not find an extra, here is the one from my 70 for ref though.
3/8 head, 1/4 bolt, thread section length from tip to head 1.41”, overal length 1.65”

The trick with that connector fastener is the length of the unthreaded portion (to preclude crushing the plastic connector) and the small head (to fit the socket down into the hole in the connector). Most hardware store fasteners will have a longer threaded portion (typically about 1" long).

 

Ya I come up with nothing on the Googler.
One of the guys that advertises parts in the classified section has to have this in a parts car or in a box. This bolt is likely used on other GM A bodies So spread your search out.

Call Desert Valley in AZ or any other desert or west coast bone yard and get a rust free one. The bolt will be 10 bux the shipping will be 40.
Call Lectric Limited see if they have a source. It least it will put a bug in their ear to think about sourcing & selling this fastener.

Hello everyone, thank you for your replies sorry for not being mor communicative. What seems to be the problem on mine is that at one point in time before I owned it, somebody stripped out the plastic that the bolt screws into. While it is temporary, I have remedied this by taking the fuse box off, and sticking a bolt through the stripped plastic, putting the connector on and snugging them together with a nut. Here is where i am wondering, should I be worried about the metal bolt head causing a short in the fuse block? I have made sure that it is not touching anything and that it has room. should i switch from metal bolt to nylon?
