Question about a '65 330
Question about a '65 330
Hey all
I've got a 65 F85 I was going to work on but now have decided to part it out. It has a fairly good running 330 and I'd like to take it out and sell it, but I've heard there are different kinds of 330s and some are not good to work with.
Is there any truth to this, and if so how do I tell which one I have? The car is a late 64 build with a two speed automatic.
Thanks much.

Mike, is it the 4bbl hi comp Cutlass engine or the 2 bbl Jetfire? The high comp engine is the same one used in the '64 442, with the exception of water pump. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong....if I'm right, the hi comp is much more desireable! By the way, like your sig line.....
All 330 motors have forged cranks. The model year 1964 motors have a number of one-year-only items, that include the water pump, damper, timing tab, and shaft mount rocker arms with unique heads. I think that makes them less desirable except to someone restoring a 64. The 65-67 motors are nearly identical. Even the low compression version is 9.0:1.
Thanks Erik and Joe. I know I read here somewhere about angled pushrods or some such thing, I don't have luck searching a million messages, but if someone can point me in the right direction that's good too.
My car is a 2bbl Jetfire. I can find the engine number tomorrow if that helps.
Also, the trans is a 2 speed, is it a Powerglide(like a Chev) or does it have anything in common with it?
As for the sig line, I felt bad that out of all the cars I have only two of them are Oldsmobiles, so I decided to make them all Oldsmobiles, at least in print.

The two speed trans used from 1964-69 is the Super Turbine 300 (ST300), also called the Jetaway by Olds. The only thing it has in common with a Powerglide is the fact that it's a two speed automatic. Nothing interchanges between the two. The Olds versions have a switch pitch torque converter, as well.
65 f85
Good Morning, I was given your handle by a member on the 442bro site, he said you might have a rear bumper for sale. I have a 65 f85 that is crying out
for a new or at least better bumper. Hope to hear from you.
