Question about 4 speed motor

I have a random and probably dumb question. I see a lot of guys saying you have to have a 4 speed motor if your wanting to do a Manual set up
And one from a automatic won’t work. So My question is can a 4 speed motor be used for a automatic setup

Yes, a manual trans crank can be used for an automatic. The problem is going from auto to stck because the crank is not drilled for the pilot input. I tried several times, unsuccessfully, without having the crank drilled properly.

Yes you can do that without any problems. The issue is most Oldsmobile crankshafts are not drilled for the pilot bearing. That's the difference that becomes a problem swapping from an automatic to manual transmission.

Yes. The reason some engines won’t work for a manual set up is because the rear of the crankshaft is not drilled for a pilot bearing. The pilot bearing supports the end of the input shaft. Since an auto doesn’t need a pilot bearing either engine will work.
