GM Colors

Went to a car show today and ran into a ‘70 Chevelle (shocker- it was an LS6). Anyway, beautiful car. Green with a green interior. Looked very similar to ‘70 Olds Sherwood Green and the interior green looked exactly liked ‘70 Oldsmobile Dark Green

. I looked at the data plate on the Chevelle and the codes were 48 48. The owner said his car was Forest Green. On a ‘70 Cutlass 48 48 would have been Sherwood Green with a dark green interior. Were interior/exterior color codes on data plates similar across the entire GM line for A Bodies in 1970 ?

Back in the 60's and 70's all GM divisions ( except Cadillac ) shared colors .
The paint codes and color formulas were the same .
Just the names were different . Each division giving the same color a different name .

So Sherwood Green (Oldsmobile) and Forest Green (Chevy) were the same GM colors for 1970 ?

Yes , if you look up this color in the auto color library for all four makes . You will find that code 48 was called Forest Green by Chevrolet .
Pepper Green by Pontiac , Sherwood green by Oldsmobile , and strangely Sherwood Green also by Buick .
The mixing formula number of 2173 is the same for all four .

48 48 would signify green body and matching green top. Has nothing to do with the interior, FWIW.

Then even within the Olds line, the name changed again in 71 and 72 to Sequoia Green. Still a code 48.

The 1972 Sequoia green has a different formula number , 2439 than the 1970 Sherwood green number 2173 .
That would mean that they are different colors , even though they share paint code number 48 .
