Well, meoff... Thanks for the hint, but I'm too dumb to figure it out!! Radiator... Radiator cap??? Seems the terrific terrible twosome have deserted me... are just going to leave me hanging... but I still love them anyhow!!

This is going to be something so obvious.... I'm going to be so mad at myself for not figuring it out... I just know it. Well, I gotta watch George Strait on the CMA Awards and leave this for tomorrow!

Evening Cutlassgal,
Lovely shot of the Cutlass tucked in for the impending winter. The whole setting is awesome!
Gotta ask... What's with the "dryer sheets" in the car for rodent protection? Someone else mentioned Bounce brand. I've never heard of dryer sheets as a mice barrier, does it work? And what exactly about dryer sheets don't rodents care for?. Heck, I thought mice, rats or whatever would make a nest out of anything soft etc... What's the story on dryer sheets?
Thanks,
Artdlr

Hey, that's a dead giveaway.

Desert you Sandy? I would never do that to a good buddy.

I was out in the garage detailing my 710 thing and wondering if I should upgrade.

Remind me to SMACK you really hard the next time I see you - after the engine is painted, that is!!! After talking about this to my cat this morning, him and I went out in the cold frosty garage - 30 degrees this morning - I figured out its OIL. It's the friggin OIL cap!!!! No.... I didn't figure this out last night after the wonderful clue meoff gave me, as my brain must have been focused on George Strait!!!

I really hope you guys had lots of belly laughs about this!!! I knew it would be something very obvious!!! Good One Guys!!! OIL... mmm.... mmm.... mmm!

Hey Sandy,
Only reason I didn't get back to your earlier, been some web problems up here. My browsers not loading CO that well (only one that seems to be affected for some reason)

Anyway, to solve this riddle, and I'll hear you scream or yell all the way up here when you do, most of the others will just start laughing. This is a time honored Blonde joke.

SOLUTION: Write 710 in big letters on a piece of paper. Take the paper and turn it........upside down........I'll wait.............................oh oh.........ah, there's the scream now! Gotta go. Bye!....

Yes, it's about time I won an award for something!!! Can we get this on a dash plaque?? LOL!! Speech....... Ooohh... my emotion chip is malfunctioning again....

First of all, I am humbled and honored to receive the award. I have to thank the 2 Allan's and Redgoat, if he was involved, because if it weren't for them, I wouldn't be sitting here accepting such a prestigious and much sought after award.

Thank you also to meoff, who was kind enough to give me a hint!!

Good thing you guys are my friends; otherwise I'd be having evil, wicked, mean and nasty thoughts about retrobution and extortion going through my head!! OIL...710... mmm...mmm...mmm...

I haven't been able to get connected all morning either. I was on early this morning but not since then. Going through CO withdrawl!!

I figured it out... in case you didn't notice! I posted early this morning.
Be aware.. I am going to be sending my big alpha male buddy after you!!

You have now joined others in being a shi* on my prestigious list!
(This is an honor, by the way!) Gotta give credit where credit is due... that was a good one guys!! You caught me having a blonde moment!

That's it... I'm coloring my hair blonde now. Blonde hair on me, and chebelle stripes on the prettiest ones trunk... what a combination!!

Sorry 'bout dat Jamebo. Unless you have a lot of nose hair for a strainer it does kind of make a mess everywhere........and on behalf of Allan H and myself, glad you have been nominated by yourself to recieve the coveted Jamesbo award. I wanna see what it looks like. Post us a pic. (maybe it looks like a burnt out keyboard with coffee steam comin out of it?)

Still friends Sandy? Sorry, it was a nasty one. You came through with flying colors though. FYI when you do your engine (and there's a fair bit of discussion on this) most filler tubes and caps were not painted. A lot of restos paint them gold or blue etc because it's already in the block when the painting gets done. I'm guessing the tube and cap went in after the blocks were painted; as part of the final engine assembly. Anyway, if your car is a 350 4bbl the correct decal that goes on the filler tube is this one:
72oilfillerdecal.jpg?t=1258057793

You just trim the ends a little and wrap it around. It's self adhesive. These are made by a guy name of Tom Krause. I replaced the red QN decal I got from Year One with this one. It's really awesome. If anyone want's his email, he makes these for just about all the BBO and most SBO in a lot of model years.

Sandy finally won an award...mmm...mmm...mmm.
It's a highly coveted one at that.

I hope you don't let this award go to your head Sandy, remember us "little people" who got you to where you are today.

I think you figured out the mystery standing on your head in front of the laptop myself Sandy, got pics?

The Australian export cap says "710", down under it says "OIL".
Always ask for a left hand drive oil cap if you ever need one or it will always say "710" and you could get confused, especially if you dye your hair blonde.
Are you sure you see deer in your yard and those aren't your neighbor's dogs or chipmunks??
Brownish with white underneath, hooves, antlers sometimes???

Well, I don't know the story behind the Bounce dryer sheets! I read it on another thread... a lot of the guys were talking about using them, so I figured why not! I've never seen a mouse in or around the garage, but I thought it wouldn't hurt to use them. My guys here haven't lead me astray yet! We could end up with nice fluffy, smellin good baby mieces in our seat cushions!!

Oh God.. I know I'm going to regret asking this,.... blonde moment in process.... going in with my eyes wide open... what does BBO and SBO mean? Please be gentle! I believe my decal has QK on it?? I'm not sure, and I'm not going out to look right now! Is this something that should be replaced? The tube and the decal are both kinda worn and old looking, but I like them! I will leave that up to my other Allan I guess. He's very smart, and will know what's best to do! His GTO is beautiful!!! You would like it!!!

There are times I wish I were a guy, and knew about these things. There are so many things I want done to the car that I could be doing right now, if I knew how. I get soooo frustrated with myself. I'm not afraid of hard work or grease under my fingernails, I just don't know how to do things! Just venting, I guess... it's been one of those days. At least the site seems to be working again. That's a good thing!

Sandy, BBO = Big Block Olds, SBO = Small (or Short) Block Olds This generally refers to whether you have a 455, or 330, 350, 400, 403 or 425

Don't sell yourself short. There's plenty of guys out there who have a lot to learn, including myself. And you think you are the only one who can get frustrated with themself? Take a number..... As far as learning how, patience and a good teacher work wonders. I'm not holding my breath on how long the site will be up and running. It seemed to work for awhile this afternoon, then it crashed just as I was posting you a reply in another thread. I'll see if I can get it to post now. You have to guess which thread it is though.

Hey Sandy,
Thanks for the compliment but if I were smart...never mind.

BBO and SBO??

I thought it meant Big Bad Olds and Smaller Bad Olds and denoted land yachts and A bodies?, bad is good and we be bad.

I would leave the tube and label alone if at all possible. It's nice nobody messed with the engine cosmetically because it is clean and original. If it was greasy and messed around with I wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole.

Here is your car's 710 cap and filler tube Sandy.
grey oxide?

tube.jpg

Now don't get all worried Sandy.
I was looking at my huge pic of your engine compartment and there are a few parts that need replaced to be correct or nice, I spotted one missing part so far.
Just the plastic upper radiator hose holder clamp deal that goes to the radiator top plate. The fan blade could eventually cut through the hose if you don't have one, no big deal.

I can link to the big pic but everybody will tear your engine compartment apart and find stuff for you to buy and tell me what to do?
Up to you, I'm now resigned to the fact I'm going to be dogged.
Actually it looks pretty good now, never messed with or abused, maybe it would be better to leave well enough alone Sandy?

A good original part with a little patina is way better than a perfectly restored or chinesium repo part any day.
I don't mess with anything like that if I can help it, looks way better than a fresh haircut looking full blown resto that takes all the character and "Chi" away, looks more grown out and just right.

I'm never minding!! Yeah... Big Bad Olds!!! We be bad! LOL!! You crack me up!! 710 cap... mmm...mmm...mmm...

Yes, she is clean under the hood isn't she? At least where I can reach with my little brushes! I try! I didn't know she has missing parts! I know she doesn't have those spark plug wire holder thingy's - I have to get some. My nephew gave me that little one that's on her now, by the dipstick.

Please don't put the big picture on here.... I'll go in to information overload with all the suggestions! It will be like my "might as well" list, and thats bad enough!! I just wanted paint and black hoses... not a rebuild!

I won't dog you.... I might whine like a girl, and bat my eyes, though!! LOL!

Patina... I like that word! Sounds better than "oxidation"! See, I knew you would know the right thing to do! Ok.. No touching the tube and decal cause it will add that touch of originality to the beautiful gold paint!!

I just smile when I think about lifting the hood and seeing her beautiful engine!!! She will be very happy and have lots of good chi then!!

Well leave it to Bluevista to come to my rescue again with a picture!! She has a 350 4bbl with AC and automatic tranny. And the AC works goooood too!!

I know.... I didn't want to put her away... We've had some beautiful driving days this fall, but since I have to drive her across the yard to put her in the garage for the winter, I didn't want to chance the weather turning crappy and the yard getting all yucky and spongy and having to drive her through it! October was pretty rainy, so I figured I'd better get her tucked in. Better to be safe than sorry!

At some point Sandy your going to have to talk that husband of yours into a drive way. You can build one out of cyinder block and grass grows up through the holes and you don't even know the drive way is there.

I don't know about this putting cars away for the year so quickly. Cutlassgal put her car away on November 1, and now the most recent two weekends, November 7-8 and now November 14-15, have turned out to be two of the nicest weekends of the entire fall here in Ohio (at least in the southeastern part of the state).

Who would have thought that I could be out in my convertible in shirtsleeves in 70-degree weather in mid-November, but that's what I did today. About 30 miles worth of driving, just for the hell of it. Just to see that CO2 go into the air and drive Al Gore crazy. It was even warmer this weekend than last, and last weekend wasn't too bad with temps in the low 60s.

All I know is, I would have HATED it if I had tucked my car away for the year only to see two beautiful weekends follow immediately!

Rub it in!!! I know... I've been kicking myself in the butt for having her all tucked away! God, today was just gorgeous!! I put on shorts and a tank top this afternoon, and went out and washed and waxed and detailed the Intrigue. I should have left the Cutlass in the house garage all this time, and let the Intrigue sit out in the driveway like I do in the summer!! I'd have loved to been driving the Cutlass today!

But had I left her out here, this weather wouldn't be as nice as it's been - it's just my luck! Like when I go out in the summer to lay in my lounge chair, and the sun goes behind the clouds!! Cutlass withdrawl... not pleasant!

If the site goes down again let's meet up by the dumpster in back of the 7-11.
I knew looking a gift horse in the mouth in that evil corporate ownership thread would jinx the place.
A massive cyber-attack, I bet it was Latvian furd guys.

I was out cruising around with the top down in my GTO yesterday.
I don't have a lot but I do have a driveway.

I was going to take the Vista out but wife Laura wouldn't let me, really. It has no bumpers, plates or lights and she said it would be a cop magnet.

What a great idea Citcapp!
I want a cylinder block driveway now, or at least a few 8 hole cast iron planters in my yard to keep the prized retired toilet planters flanking my driveway company.
Another good reason to have a drive.

The huge engine pic is safe for now, I won't publish it to the world wide web for all to see... maybe.
Whoever makes the most generous offer will get it, not good having pics of her with her hood open floating around like this Sandy.
Huge Hefner at Playcar is interested.

I didn't even see the spark plug wire holders were missing, see what I know? I'll make a list for you Sandy, have to see what else I need for mine first, I love to spend other people's boolah.
I'll do your engine for nothing...except your carburetor and manifold, plus fill tube and 710 cap of course.

edit: I'll post the pic in small increments that will have to be assembled like a jigsaw puzzle.
Here is pic one.

I'm not a crook.jpg

Well I just want to say thanks to Sandy for putting her car away Nov.1st and as luck would have it , it has been really nice since then. So Sandy I won't tell you how many times I have been out cruising in my Olds with the top down enjoying the sunshine that would just be rubbing it in. I thank you though for being the one to make that sacrifice.Maybe next year will be different eh!

Good point! Thank you for sacrificing for us, as others have said. Next year it will be someone else's turn to put their car away early.

The Prettiest One pic two.

washer bottle.jpg

Looks like a new battery cable and washer bottle, very clean and neat Sandy.

Nothing bad there, I approve and give it an A-.
It would have been an A but the inner fender bolt thread has a little surface rust on it.

Stay tuned for further reports.

I will put the pics on my public flickr site and attach them back to here, they may be susceptible to espionage though.
You don't know where those things may turn up next.

I've been carefully scrutinizing the engine bay and that baby is clean.
I'll have to wear white gloves or a bio-suit to work on it, what an honor to be able to touch that super-sano mill.

I think you may need to buy one of those new full front end fender cover deals with a hole in the middle for the engine Sandy. You will also need an ink pen for the release form I'm going to have you sign.
"The party of the first part "Bluvista" is not resposible for any damages or dirtiness caused to said "Prettiest One" engine bay either incidental or consequential caused by the party of the second part hereby known as "Redgoat".
The funniest part is that l'm not kidding.

Pic 3.

The little cover on your horn relay hot post is usually missing. The metal relay cover's patina is original so no deductions. That gives you extra points so it brings your grade back up to an "A" unless the peanut gallery finds something I missed.

The red hose is going to be replaced so no big deal, correct ribbed type with tower clamps I would suspect. Buy doubles of everything because I need to train and practice first on my car.

I have to drain the anti-freeze too? Worry about breaking the heater core fittings?
Actually I always cut the hoses off close then slice and peel them off to prevent that, but hey... I have to complain about something.

Well I think Allen is planning on putting up these little snippets for a while yet. The washer bottle one looks pretty good so it must just be basically the block she wants done. I had to do the whole thing including under hood and firewall. even took out and painted the inner fenders. Took awhile but well worth it.
I put on a different aircleaner to see if it would improve the carbs performance.....YEP
