quote=Bluevista;124036]I will put the pics on my public flickr site and attach them back to here, they may be susceptible to espionage though.
You don't know where those things may turn up next.

Oh No!! I don't want her espionaged! She is soooo innocent, ya know!

I've been carefully scrutinizing the engine bay and that baby is clean.
I'll have to wear white gloves or a bio-suit to work on it, what an honor to be able to touch that super-sano mill.

You'll look good in white!

I think you may need to buy one of those new full front end fender cover deals with a hole in the middle for the engine Sandy. You will also need an ink pen for the release form I'm going to have you sign.
"The party of the first part "Bluvista" is not resposible for any damages or dirtiness caused to said "Prettiest One" engine bay either incidental or consequential caused by the party of the second part hereby known as "Redgoat".
The funniest part is that l'm not kidding.

You crack me up! Do they really make such a cover?? I will gladly sign your contract... we'll just have to keep Redgoat under control!

Pic 3.

The little cover on your horn relay hot post is usually missing. The metal relay cover's patina is original so no deductions. That gives you extra points so it brings your grade back up to an "A" unless the peanut gallery finds something I missed.

I think there's a lot of patina under her hood! I should be up to an A+ soon!! I'm sure the peanut gallery is gonna bring a lot of things to your attention!! Don't listen.... lalalalala

The red hose is going to be replaced so no big deal, correct ribbed type with tower clamps I would suspect. Buy doubles of everything because I need to train and practice first on my car.

You're funny!!!!

I have to drain the anti-freeze too? Worry about breaking the heater core fittings?
Actually I always cut the hoses off close then slice and peel them off to prevent that, but hey... I have to complain about something.[/quote]

I hear kid sized pools are good for catching anti freeze?? If that's all you complain about, that will be a good thing! I'd rather have you slice and dice than to have to break something!!

I don't have a pic BUt, I would just guess a partial parts list would include

1] Spring ring battery cables
2]Correct radiator hose clamps
3]Thingy that holes the radiator off the shroud
How's you underhood insulation?

Dirty underware!!!
I don't do laundry.

You guys are literally killing me.
Oh yeah verily! What have I doth wrought upon myself!???.

I'll take care of her or you'll whoop my butt Sandy. I'm really gettin' skeer'd now, Larry will kill me if I get oil on the floor too.
That punching bag hanging by your car is intimidating, it's yours isn't it?.

I think my humble and meager garage would be a better place to do this, no girls allowed.
I would be lost trying to do all that work at your place with the screwdriver and pair of pliers from your toolbox.

You can handle the hood insulation Sandy.
You have to get two expensive molded ones unless you want fiberglass micro-scratch itches and stuff flaking off all over the engine all the time, hope they don't do that too? I cut a new regular one up I got for my goat and used it for insulation behind the back seat.

Brake booster? I didn't want to mention that.
Brakes are a whole 'nother ball game.
That leads to underbody resto going by the "mightaswell" rule.

The engine bay is really clean, I never really looked at the pulleys and brackets that close and the pics I have don't show them well. If the radiator has to be drained and lower hose has to come off for "correct clamps" (thanks Jamesbo) and the AC compressor and belts and alternator have to be pulled loose and out of the way "mightaswell" do the pulleys and brackets if they need it.
How about an OAI hood Sandy?, mightaswell.
I can sit Sandy out in her yard after she runs the brackets and pulleys through her dishwasher and give her some sandpaper or scotchbrite pads, prep-sol and a rattle can of black paint and she can go nuts, right Sandy???
Speaking of nuts, what about all the nuts and bolts that may need refinishing too???

Thats engine sure looks pretty Wolfman.

Looking at your engine I really want chrome valve covers even more now.
With all that room do you walk around inside the engine bay to work on it??
I put a 14" chrome air cleaner on mine to make it easier to take off to adjust and tune but I may leave it now. All engines should have chrome valve covers and air cleaners by law.

A chromium zircon encrusted 710 cap would be the ultimint.

Citcapp, you are funny!!!! Dirty underware...mmm...mmm...mmm... Hey, how do you know what's in my toolbox??? I'll have you know I also have a pair of vice grips too! Her pulleys and brackets are beautiful and clean too. But I do have scotchbrite pads and sandpaper and I'll gladly paint!!! I'll paint nuts and bolts too. The belts are only a couple years old. But I'll get new ones if necessary. Do you want me to take pictures of pulleys and brackets??

You're gonna have to make me a final list so I can start buying stuff. And tell me where to get the stuff from! Do I want chrome valve covers?? I just don't think they would be "her". I did see a kit of booster paint on Eastwoods site - beautiful!!

Sandy don't forget the black in the engine compartment is different. Some gloss, some semi some flat [I think]

This might be a good black for those questions to get answered. Isn't the top rad support gloss and the core support flat? or semi flat? or semi gloss?

Well yes the brake booster is black They were not always gold though I do have some gold on it you may not have noticed , for instance the alt. is gold as well as the fan blade. Chrome parts include the air breather and valve covers as well as power steering pump cover and my 710 cap which by the way is marked 710 but it's upside down? The coil also has a chrome cover.

You did mention these before! I looked in my Fusicks book but I didn't see them.... where would they be in the book?? I have Catalog No. 42C. I was going to get the Spark plug wire holders and the dated plug wires, and the Hood Insulation from Fusicks...

Do I still need everything on my "mightaswell" list too??? I wrote it all down!

Sorry mne is 29 C It came over on the Mayflower

I think I've got an extra set.

Yeah post your list and we can add to it. Fusick also sells some underhoold screw/ kit.

I've got some extras of some things, I can help ya with a CARE package when ya get your list together. I'm sure some of your buddies have extras also. I'm known for buying two of everything and loosing 3 of them only to reorder.

So hold off on ordering until you get a list together and see what we can dig up to help ya out.

Bye the bye

How's the trunk?

Well thats mighty nice of you, and I appreciate it!! I will take some pictures and put on... I have to wait to hear from "the boss" as to what I need to get, cause he's smart about these things! Her trunk is beautiful too... a little surface rust I want to get taken care of across the top... I was going to order a trunk mat from Fusicks too.

Trunk mat is something I need but I was wondering if they all came with mats or if some had carpeting? I have the original trunk cardboards but they are not in great shape so I was going to recover them in a black vinyl. I also have a wish list but finances will determine what I will get over winter.
Here is what the motor used to look like. As you can see it was worse off than yours Sandy.

Yes... it looks much better painted!! I was thinking about ordering the trunk divider panels too with the trunk mat. It would look very neat and nice, I think, but I don't know if she's supposed to have them? I can't make heads or tails out of the manual I got... I just get confused! It's neat to see how they were made though!

I went out and took pictures of the trunk and underhood brackets and such, but I don't dare post them until I get the Ok from the bossman!!!!! One I will post is my 710 thingy cause I was right! And it's not often that I am right!!! Whether "it's" right is another question, though! I'm sure I'll be told!!

So did you notice that I actually have a cap that says 710 if upsidedown?
The trunk normally has cardboards along both sides , I am pretty sure yours should have. Check to see if they have them at fusicks , I know they sell for some years and models.

She's making a list
Checking it Twice
Bounce in her car to keep out the mice.

That's a close pic Sandy, the intake is the only part that really needs paint, please?.
I'm no boss, never-ever connect me with anything to do with that.....Springsteen.

Does your car have cruise and support braces Sandy??
Oops, my car.
How do you like my engine paint job?
I'm very proud of it.

Notice the oil fill tube and 710 cap are golden originally on mine.

Your brake booster needs something.
The Eastwood golden cad kits are 50-60 bucks. New shiny golden unicorn rainbow plated boosters are around 100-130 bucks so.....
The MC on mine is a newer type, should have bleeders and the original shape and lid is a little different I think but it's close enough.

Dog School 021.jpg

I do get all my detailing paint from Eastwood.
They have lots of cool stuff, one of the first resto supply places, I mail ordered from them pre-internet.
It was a challenge getting stuff back then but it made men out of boys and taught you how to hunt stuff down analog.

http://www.eastwood.com/paints/detail-paints.html?p=1

Just buy a lot of everything, always better to have too much than not enough.
Two for the list "justincase" and you should always have some around for touch-ups anyway;

Underhood Black - Brackets and any semi-gloss areas like the firewall

Spray Gray - simulates raw cast iron like the master cylinder should be.

The engine paint is up to you, many places have it but make sure you get at least three cans.
I purchased some Dupli-Color universal gold at Auto-Zone to do some touch-ups and it matched the much more expensive stuff I ordered online (and ran out of), real gold looking.
I have three full cans of Bill Hirsch Olds engine paint I ended up with somehow, I do the Jamesbo buying technique too.

The stuff is a little more pale than mine and was expensive but you're welcome to it for a small fee or trade.
How many hours on that big tractor anyway???

Yes I did notice that! LOL!! The Allan's will be so proud! Bet you're blonde aren't you??? Just kidding! I have my trusty Fusicks catalog right here, and I don't see any cardboards for along the sides of the trunk in my catalog, just the divider that goes behind the back seat.

I do see carpets too. I don't know if mine should have carpet or a mat. I would hate to put black tar stuff in her trunk under carpet, but you might want to check it out if you're looking for carpet.

WOW!! That is a very beautiful gold engine!! I like it - lots!!!!!

So how come your 710 cap was gold to begin with?? And is my QK decal ok, or should it be QN like the other Allan said??

I already checked out the golden cad kit on Eastwood's a long time ago! You told me about them at the show, and I wrote them down in my notebook! I'm going to get that. Do I have to get high temperature paint for the engine??

I went out this morning and took some pictures of brackets and stuff. Some of the brackets look semi-gloss to me, but what do I know? My fan is not beautiful. *gasp* It needs paint. So do some of the pulleys. My radiator thing-a-ma-jigs don't look that bad to me, but I'll have to let Jamesbo be the judge of that. Can't have a beautiful gold engine with ugly thing-a-ma-jigs!! I'll gladly post the pics I took, but I don't want everyone else tearing her apart cause that would hurt my feelings.
She is old, but very worthy!! She will feel so much younger with a beautiful gold engine!

I think this a hundred responses to this post Sandy, you can have a Jubilee celebration with 1ATony now.

QK is correct isn't it? Allan R.'s doesn't have air.

Thanks for the compliment, want to trade engines??
I think I want a four barrel engine now.

Yes, you need hi-temp paint.
The engine gets hot.
Brackets are semi-gloss /Eastwood Underhood Black.
There are formulas for it but just not worth having it mixed up unless you're doing a lot.
Here's the recipe.

Semi-gloss black

2 qt. PPG mixing black #386
1 qt. universal flattening agent
1 qt. mixing clear #3 10
PPG DTL16 thinner

Got it?

Your car really is stand-up Sandy, don't be embarassed of anything or worry about what anybody else says, kicks butt on most cars as it sits.

Plus it can always be fixed anyway.

Maybe they don't sell them for cutlass or maybe they did not originally have any? I am not sure about the 72's. I would never put black tar under a carpet , that would be crazy. All you need is a carpet adhesive like a 3M spray adhesive. of course I am going to repaint the trunk so I may just go with a trunk mat and the recovered cardboards , should look fine. What's with the blonde comment? you were the one who did not know what a 710 thingy was i would have posted a pic of it sooner but I thought it was too soon to give it away

Allan H,
I see you have cruise. Hmmmm, that's not the right setup for a 1970, but if it works....have you checked the local boneyard for the right one? The transducer is the same on all Olds models from 1970-1977 and I found spares at the boneyard for just 17.00!! They work too. So do the vacuum diaphragms (5.00) for the Jupiter 2 style. Based on the b4 and after pics, you have every reason in the world to be proud. It looks like.....incredibly beautifuller and more wowier than any big noisy go fast thing I've ever seen. Except for the boyz with bling, but they just talk and show, not walk and go. LMK if you're interested in replacing your modulator and vacuum with the "correct" one. If I find some more donors, I'll pick em up for ya. You pay what I pay? deal or no deal....Ummmm Howie, I think I'll take that deal !!

I'm gonna go out and find a long "Cher" style blonde wig so I can keep up with ya Sandy.
The most recent version of Fusicks is the 43 C. Go on line and get a free download. The rad seals are on page 41. If your carpet is in reasonable shape, don't replace just dye it. There's black spray dye for carpets and vinyl that work just awesome. IMO the original carpet has more value to the car. Unfortunately though, many of them have a lot of issues in the jute and sound insulation that you only see when you take them out.
I bought a OLDSMOBILE rubber trunk mat from Fusicks - it is totally awesome. Fills the whole darn trunk. I'm also going to buy their licensed Olds floor mats - full set of 4. Costs a whopper though because they're heavy to ship.
Cardboard sides in the trunk? Did Supreme's have that? I don't bremember seeing them?? They do have the greenish trunk liner thats fits over the lower and upper part of the trunk.

Yeah, good idea. My might as well list looks like a mini catalogue by itself. Sometimes ya gotta know when to fold em. Like when money isn't flowing in like a waterfall. Spark plugs, wire holders and wires? Cat 43C Page 31.

Your car really is stand-up Sandy, don't be embarassed of anything or worry about what anybody else says, kicks butt on most cars as it sits.

Plus it can always be fixed anyway.

You crack me up! A jubilee with 1ATony! I'm still wondering if he has a car, and when he's gonna show us! LOL!! Maybe Jamesbo will have another prestegious award for us!

No, I don't want to trade engines! I'm going to trust her to you and Redgoat in your garage - no girls allowed - and I'm sure I'll get my engine back... only beautifuler!! Putting that picture of your engine out here just restored the faith I have in you!!

If it's all the same, I think I'll just stick to making blueberry muffins and cakes! I'll just buy the paint all ready made! I will keep the recipe though, just in case I ever feel adventurous!

I have a long blonde wig I bought for my daughter for Halloween one year - I put it on when I'm trying to figure out things like 710 thingys next to big noisy thingys!!

Well, I reckon I'll have to get a new Fusicks catalog - I just got this one last summer! I do like that big Olds trunk mat. I thought about getting it. There's nothing in her trunk now. Dirty underware under the hood, and a naked trunk! I don't know what would be better; the regular trunk mats or the big Olds one. I don't think the Supremes did have cardboard sides in the trunk. I do like that panel that goes behind the back seat, though.

Oh? So Sandra, you really didn't trust me until you saw my finished engine pic huh???
I didn't know I needed references, you get what you pay for with me anyway.

Blueberry muffins and cake?
You can describe how they taste all day but until I taste them myself I just don't know if I would want to let you bake me a birthday cake. Hey!

If I'm at your house and you ever offer me anything you made to eat and your husband, daughter and cat are standing behind you grabbing their throats, crossing their eyes and pretending to choke I'll get the message Sandy.

You did it now, these guys can smell food a mile away here.

If you bring food in here there has to be enough for the whole class Sandy, cupcakes are always good with Hawaiian Punch in little paper Dixie Cups.
Don't forget the church key can opener and the Spongebob Squarepants napkins and paper plates.
Please, no leftover Hanna Montana plates from your birthday party.

My daughter brings them home from work for me so I put these stickers on all my tools.

When's the officical Classic Oldsmobile "Holiday" (pun intended) party anyway??

Painting an engine is a piece of cake.
I'll give you a little credit Sandy.
Girl type females can do one thing that no guy could ever do, you have proof who is going to want to drive The Prettiest One soon as she gets her license.

Cars are easy.

You're funny!!!!! Of course I trusted you before I ever saw that picture! The last time I saw a "preview" pic of my engine though, it was Chebby Orange... remember? LOL!! Must have been that darned Redgoat again, huh?

I think I'll make some blueberry muffins today... they are my favorite and very tasty!! Don't worry - I'd never feed you anything I wouldn't eat myself.... I do believe I still have some Spongebob plates and napkins. Spongebob Rules.... daaaaaaaa....

Larry does most of the cooking, and I do the baking! I'll let you know when the muffins are done, and I'll put on a fresh pot of coffee and y'all can come over!

I don't know when the party will be. You'll have to tell me, and we'll be available!!

As for my child driving the 72... let me think about it.... NOPE!!!! Not gonna happen... no way... no how... nada... Nooooo! I'm waiting for her to take off one - or both - of those big side mirrors on the Intrigue backing it out of the garage in the mornings!!! God it's scary!!! She gets all confused backing up - doesn't know which way to turn the wheel as to what direction she wants to go.

Last night we went over to Hudson to pick up some pizza, and she drove us cause I've been sick.... she picks a parking spot with a light pole encased in concrete which is already taking up half the space... I'm thinking to myself... Oh God.... Then when we leave, she puts the car in neutral... says OOPS... and puts it in DRIVE!!! I said - where do you think you're gonna go in drive??? That concrete isn't gonna move for you!!!!
OOPS!!! I swear these kids have the attention span of a gnat!! All I get when I try to tell her something is "I know. I know." She has no clue!

Maybe after she's had her license for 5 accident free years, I'll THINK about letting her take the 72 down our street! Maybe..

I know how you feel about that , I have a 17 year old that is my son though not biologically , and he has gone through 2 cars so far. They were used Hyundai's and cheap but that was because kids need lots of driving before they get anything worth driving. With him it was treating a crappy car like it was a 4 wheeler and of course his buddies doing stupid things like punching the car to see who could put the biggest dent in it Now he has no wheels and I am fixing up the Astro van for him , though he does not know that yet. The Astro has all wheel drive and a 2400 watt stereo system which would probably be the part he would like the most. If he trashes it then I am out of vehicls for him and he needs to save money from the part time job he has for his next one. Probably last him a year or more depending on how he treats it.

I do all the cooking when the girlfriend comes over and of course for myself.I could count on my 10 fingers how many times I have gone out for something to eat or ordered in something in the past 5 years. The girlfriend does the baking on weekends when she comes over , though not every weekend

I think if they have to pay for their own vehicle, they appreciate it more and want to take care of it. I've always taken care of my cars, and... knock on wood... never had a ticket or an accident. I am proud of that! There were times when I should have had one or both, though! But not very often. My sister always trusted me with her Olds' and the monte... she knew I would take care of them - and I always put gas in them too - but when my nephew would get in her cars and peel rubber half way down the road, she would cringe!! Needless to say, he's lost his license a few times!

You can come over and have a muffin... I'll be here all day!

Make that THREE weekends in a row

Another beautiful day here in southeast Ohio. Sunny, no wind, temps in the low 60s. Had the convertible out for a nice spin yet again. Boy, I'm sure glad I'm not one of those people who put their car away for the year as a result of some misguided reading of the calendar.

Jaunty.... Don't make me send the flying monkeys AND Redgoat after you!!

Over here it was cloudy all day but no rain... just keep thanking me for putting her away early, so you can continue to have nice driving weather! We're supposed to get flurries on turkey day according to the weather forecast last night. It sure has been a beautiful November!

Citcapp....... be quiet. The monkeys and Redgoat can find you too!!!

It's even been nice up here so I will thank Sandy I guess. Can't say the same for the northwest coast though. The temps have not been bad but my sister says they have had lots of rain this month and a couple of rainstorms with 6 inches plus. Oh well they had a hot dry summer so I guess they pay for that now.

Yes the great cow in the sky is doing her thing on the flat rock in the great Northwest. Hopfully she runs out soon. Really really wet around here. For the first time in months i noticed the webs growing between my toes again and my gills are starting to show. This sucks.

Yes Allan H. You are correct. Sandy's car should be QK since it has AC. Mine doesn't so it's a QN.

Oh, go ahead and send them along so they can enjoy the weather, too!

TODAY (Sunday) was an even nicer day than yesterday, but I didn't have a chance to get the convertible out.

December is not far away and the cold weather will bring snow hopefully the NW will not get that much snow but if it keeps raining eventually it will be snow. Last year we had lots of snow but it would never stay cause it would warm up enough to rain in Dec. Jan. Feb. which is not really normal but maybe we won't get much snow at all this year Wait and see I probably jinxed it now
