Power Steering Pulley help!
Power Steering Pulley help!
I’ve searched and can’t seem to find the answer. I have a 72 Cutlass with 350. Replacing the power steering pump
How do we put the pulley on the new pump?? There are no threads on the end of the shaft for those tools that will aid.
I got the pulley off by just using a punch and hammer since I wasn’t worried about damaging the shaft on the old pump.
I’m thinking of greasing the shaft and pulley and just gently tapping with a soft hammer but wanted to check with the experts.
Thanks!

called Lares company tech in MN. They were the company the did the refurbish of the pump. They said this model, the 2120, the attaching nut would snug the pulley down. I couldn’t get the pulley on by hand enough to attach the nut.
They said to just lightly tap the pulley on with a soft hammer. I put it in a vise, put a little grease on just rotated the pulley gently tapping right next to shaft. Not on shaft. Got it on far enough for the nut to grab the threads. Tightened down with socket. Hit it with impact driver right at end for a slight final tightening. Worked fine.
