Should be on the driver's side forward door jamb, just under the top hinge:

Why do they need two? The car only has one.

That's the whole point of a VIN - there is a single unique number that identifies a particular car.

CA requires two vin numbers and evidently there are numbers stamped all over the frame and other spots.

You need to inform California that this might be true today, but it certainly was not back in the 1950s.

He means the same VIN, but appearing in more than one place on the car. I don't think he's going to find that on a '50s car. At least, if there is a second location for a VIN, the body might have to be lifted off the frame to find it.

F-rd used to stamp a VIN on the frame on the driver's side, forward of the firewall, going back to the '30s, as far as I know, but I'm not sure whether GM did that.

I had to go to CHP and they put it on a lift and had these old books from the 50's on where to look and they found the vin stamped on the frame so evidently they did do that back then! Good thing it was the original frame!

I don't know when they started the frame stamp, but it goes back to at least the 30's.

Generally the frame vin can be found on the passenger side inside rear frame wheel arch at the top. Most I have seen if you can find it are stamped very lightly and heavy rust will take it away. I've never had to show a second vin number and I live in CA. also. Is this something new?.... Tedd

It's because the car left the state for a few years so it had an out of state title when it came back
