Unhappy VIN # location

Hi. I have a 1951 S 88, and I am trying to locate the VIN number. I have the title in my hand, with a listed VIN on it. I type that number into the VIN decoder, and it says the number is incorrect. I looked on the under hood tag, and the one on the inside of the drivers side "A" pillar. Having no luck. Can anyone help?
thanks

Back in the old days there was no VIN number. The only number on the car would be the engine number.
When we registered our 1960 Super 88 in Australia we had to proove to the Road & Transpost Authority that there was no VIN and had a new VIN allocated and stamped on the car. It really upsets the authorities when they cant fill in the forms properly. We even had to go to the police to get the car cleared for theft(no VIN it must have been a stolen car right).

Hi there,

I was wondering if you found the answer to your problem, I am on the same boat. I have a 53 Olds that I bought from a farmer and the VIN tag is missing. I am trying to find out if back in those days they also stamped the number on the frame somewhere. If anyone help could help in the matter it would be greatly appreciated.

Also I was trying to find a data plate decoder. I found only the decoder in regards to the plant where the car was built but nothing about trim#, color# and body style#.

PLEASE HELP!!

The VIN can be found on the drivers side inner frame rail, underneath the dash next to the heater box and also on the engine block. Hope this helps

You all do realize this thread is from 2006, right? The OP hasn't logged into this site since then.
