And what happens when you email the pictures. If it's going to happen it will no matter what.

Kinda hard to spark a sale interest without pics. Most casual lookers will not ask for them, I know I don't. I am one who will buy something that just "catches my eye" (and the price is right of course).
Post a low res version as bait, then reel 'em in with an emailed full version.

If you're worried about other people using your artwork then selling it, you have automatic copyright to it as soon as you publish it, and posting it up here constitutes publishing it.

To protect it proactively, you can also register the copyrights with the copyright office.

Unless, of course, any of it contains trademarks that actually belong to anyone else...

I will be doing just that in the future.

Is this the clock thing?
I saved a copy image 'cause a) it's damn cool and b) I am sure I can't afford one... Can't make one.... just have the image.

A good way to discourage theft or "sampling" is to put a watermark across the image. Easily done by various image programs.

It doesn't keep someone's grubby paws off of it like an electric shock, but if you find that someone is selling your copyrighted material, it makes it much easier to go after them, get money from them, and make them stop.

I'm no lawyer, but I'm pretty sure that you actually have automatic copyright as soon as you CREATE it. That is, as soon as it is in some tangible, physical form.

Using the little copyright symbol and your name helps tell people that you're serious about such things, and registering the work can help in a court battle. But neither is necessary to actually establish the copyright. It's like the pursuit of happiness -- it's inalienable.

Another way to fix that problem is photoshopping his name over the middle of the picture. You can still make out what's in the picture, but it would be unsellable with his name up the middle of it.

And when I say picture, I mean another copy of it, not the original.

Yes it's yours, but your inalienable right is costly to pursue in case of an infraction. Then the only people that make money are the attorneys. The people who infringe are usually broke and ... well you know the story.

Watermarking and registering photos doesnt stop someone from buying his work and reproducing it. Which is what happened in this case.

A very well known company that deals in Oldsmobile parts ripped off Pauls work and tried to sell it as their own.

Intellectual property is meaningful in the United States. Apple was recently awarded one billion in a suit against Samsung for ripping off their gestures.

At this point ebay has taken the auctions off of their site, a goal has been accomplished. I'm going to try and enjoy the holidays without this hanging over my head. I will try and bring more info out after the 1st.
Thanks for the support I have received.

Geez you guys sure do like the group hugs threads. Yet another angry topic about business matters with one side of the story presented and much big bandwagon piling on. Why does anyone with any common sense visit matters of disputed private business on to public forums, not unlike so much writing on the shithouse wall? Are Oldsmobile collectors and owners especially insecure or ill advised in procedure? Must be a 2014 thing, I just don't get it.

Fighting a phantom enemy is fun, Sir. Nobody has yet infringed on any copyrights. Yet, it's fun to fire the first shot in a pre-emptive theater of forseen conflict
